    Re: Public Beta

The VUDU box with Brazil is a little more responsive than my LGBD390 with VUDU is. Although the navigation with the BD390 is easier since you can move the selector in four directions, instead of two with the VUDU remote.

Remote navigation with my Harmony now allows for up/down/left/right instead of just right/left. I like that but it did screw me up for a little bit at first.

I've also noticed the no response to the power off as well as some buttons in info & settings not working. All in All a great upgrade, I don't know if it was because I just loaded v3.0 but it seemed to respond much slower than v2.x.

Also while watching a couple of previews the box would either restart the preview or reset the whole box and causing a reboot.

On the 3rd reboot it came up in 480i mode for some reason and I had to go in and reset it to 1080p.

        Great work so far.

We are aware of this issue. The power button longer turns the box (video) on or off. We left control for power on and off for an embedded device to the manufacturer, so power (video) on/off was left out in Brazil.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Does the power toggle even affect anything other than the video output?

I streamed The Taking of Pelham 123 in HDX over the weekend. Not a single hiccup on my 6MB DSL. Love the flexibility of being to watch instantly an HDX movie.

No on the VUDU box the power off just shuts down the video out.

This weekend my box rebooted each time I tried to start an HDX rental (instant streaming on Amadeus). After the reboot it worked just fine.

The only other thing I've noticed is that the interface is very laggy compared to the Brazil interface. It takes the screen a few seconds to refresh while moving from movie to movie.

                    Please note:
                    Brazil = Instant HDX/Streaming
Amadeus = p2p no instant HDX

When you are in Amadeus, there is option "Enter Brazil", vice versa.

Sorry - I got them confused. The problems I listed were encountered when using Brazil.

I did the exact same thing with my 6MB DSL. No issues at all and I too love the flexibility.

                          Re: Public Beta

Am I imagining things or did I see slightly different rental restrictions on Brazil vs Amadeus? When I rented Pelham 123 on Brazil, my watch window was given as 48 hours vs the usual 24. Also, I think I remember seeing HDX rental availability of that title on Brazil BEFORE it was available for HD rental on Amadeus (I may be wrong, but this is what I remember as I switched between the 2 more than once that night while investigating Brazil).

Is this a temporary and quirky beta benefit or are the studios more flexible with streaming vs download? If it's the latter, trhen that is yet another big benefit for Brazil...

Had a question with new Brazil... The Vudu strength bar at the top of the screen indicates internet strength I guess? I have over 10mbs and I'm only at 1 bar.. Anyone else see this?

                              Re: Public Beta

Just watched my first movie under Brazil and I have to say, I'm not impressed.

Don't get me wrong, the features are nice but this is certainly a beta, and a somewhat early one it seems.

As others have noted, the interface is laggy and the coverart is constantly loading/refreshing.

I watched The Soloist in HD and the box paused (went to the cover art) no less that 10 times even though I had purchased the movie 5 days before(does it not DL??). In addition once it rebooted the entire box (the box has rebooted 3-4 times just while browsing the interface before this). BEFORE the box rebooted I noticed I was only getting 2 channel sound, this was resolved after the reboot. Also, the IR scheme is very different than in Amadeus. I used to use a combination of the page/chapter/FF-RW commands for the most flexibility in navigation. Now only the FF-RW work. I'm surprised the chapter up/down commands don't work since chapter navigation is built into Brazil. Also >>/<< (the slowest FF and RW) speeds are still too fast for precise navigation.

Also I don't like the inlay of lower quality video during FF/RW. Is this necessary due to streaming? I guess I don't know much about Brazil, does it never fully download the movie if you aren't actively watching it? And even if it truly only streams, I can't understand how on a substantial DL line like I have how I had so many times where I ran into what I assume is a buffer issue on just the HD setting.

All in all this made for a very poor watching experience, all on a 15Mbps cable line.

I also rented Transformers in HDX but now I'm very concerned about how that will go. Afterwards I am very likely to switch back to Amadeus until Brazil is quite a ways further down the road.

I noticed something like this that had to do with the rental window (time to start watching the movie) but it had nothing to do with Amadeus/Brazil.

I rented 2 movies on Brazil recently, and one had a 14day window and the other 30(or 28 or whatever it is). I don't know if it has been like this before but it caught me off guard.
