Storing movies with LD BD390 + Vudu?

So I just drove over an hour to a best buy store to pick up the LG BD390 because every other store was sold out. The first store I went to, the guy told me it has an eSata drive or USB drive to hook up an external hard drive, but they didnt have a display model to show, so I trusted he knew what he was talking about (should of known better...)

I go to pick it up at a different store and look at the display, there is NO way to hook up an external hard drive other than if it is on a network. I ask two guys there, none had any idea.

On the way back I call LG support and ask them. After speaking with two other people, I'm told the unit has an internal hard drive, but is definitely not big enough to store HDX movies and is only meant to buffer/stream from the web.

I've been trying to read online before I decide what to do with this BD player. The only reason I bought it was because of the Vudu box. I have a PS3 that I use as a BD player, but would like to replace it with a stand alone model, as well the LG has some other attractive features.

Anyone have experience with this and buying/streaming HDX movies? I would prefer to store them here rather than on Vudus servers, just incase something happens, I still have the movies.

    Thanks

If you're looking to store VUDU movies on a hard-drive than you're only option would be to go with a VUDU set-top box. All other VUDU embedded devices only offer streaming, not downloading. However, the VUDU set-top boxes (VBX1000 & VBX100) can do both streaming and downloading. With the LG BD390 you will want to make sure you have enough available bandwidth to stream HDX (at least a sustained 4.5 Mbps) or you'll never be able to enjoy our HDX content. You can check the speed of your network at www.speedtest.net.

The LGBD390 has a USB port where you can hook up an external USB hard drive. Although this has nothing to do with VUDU service. With the external USB hard drive you can view photos, play video files etc. from the hard drive. Or you can view them over the network.

Unless you plan to view movies w/o an internet connection there's no need to have to store the movies locally. It's more efficient to just always stream them and let them be stored in the "cloud." In a lot of ways, I find it to be a better system than having to worry about content being stored on a local hard drive that could go belly up at some point or get full.

One thing to just beware of if you buy a lot of content using the BD390 - The Vudu movie licenses are tied to the DEVICE and not just your account. So if you at some point, get a new DVD player, you will lose your movies. I hope this changes but if things in the embedded side are the same as the set top side as far as licensing, this is the case.
