The Fandango at Home Forums are designed to help viewers get the most out of their Fandango at Home experience. Here, Fandango at Home customers may post information, questions, ideas, etc. on the subject of Fandango at Home and Fandango at Home -related issues (home theater, entertainment, etc).     Quick Question about streaming

    If I buy a HDX movie and pause it right when it starts streaming to my bd390, will it continue to download the entire movie if I wait like an hour and come back? I just want to be able to watch it without and buffering problems and stuff. Thanks.

    It just streams. It only has a buffer that holds a few seconds.(not sure the amount, maybe 10 to 20 seconds). It doesn't have internal storage to download the movie. Just enough for streaming.

    There is 1GB of onboard storage in the BD390 but that is required to be reserved for BDLive content to be profile 2.0 compliant.

      This is only capable on VUDU set-top boxes with a built-in hard-drive. For all VUDU embedded devices, you will need at least a 4.5 Mbps download speed in order to enjoy HDX content without any buffering.

        Is this entirely true ? I have a set top box and as I understand it I can do only one of two things:

        1) Use Amadeus, in which case there is no capability to stream HDX content

        or

        2) Use Brazil , in which case there is no capability to download to my box's hard drive


        Please tell me if I am incorrect about this, because I would love to be able to stream HDX and simultaneously download it to my box. Not too big a feat it would seem, as this is exactly what any DVR does.

          Technically you are right about the STB. It doesn't "stream" the video. It "downloads" it to the HD. However, for all practical intents and purposes, since you don't have to wait for it to completely download before watching (e.g. you can watch it instantly), it may as well be called streaming for this discussion. So when you watch a movie and it's downloading to your HD and you hit pause, it continues to download the movie to your HD. The HD is just acting as a very large buffer in that sense.

            With the STB running Amadeus, it only downloads at a max speed of around 4mbs. So you can only watch HD and SD titles as they download. For HDX titles you have to wait for the title to download first before it allows you to view it.

              This is true and currently that feature is not available, as the Brazil streaming service is designed for embedded devices that will not included a hard-drive. However, I will pass this feature request along to our engineering department.

                Just a little info, I have been using Brazil quite a bit, I have found in addition to streaming, there is an option on the menu to download the movie as well....I have not used this option yet, the hard drive on my box is pretty full, but it seems like a very good option to have.......

                  I have never seen this option and it seems to contradict what AdamS just said. Where do you see this.

                    Brian,

                    I purchase movies in Brazil from time to time, that option is there when movies are purchased, not rented.....My purchased movies stay "in the cloud", allowing me to stream them whenever I like.....at this time it works for me as the HDD on my box is full with movies purchased on Amadeus......Hopefully VUDU will provide a way to store movies to external HDD.....

                      This is true if you own a VUDU set-top box and are running the Brazil streaming software. A new feature we've added to Brazil is the ability to download a purchased movie to the HDD to watch it at anytime with an internet connection. If you own a VUDU set-top box and are running the Brazil software, when you go into "My VUDU > My Movies" and select a purchased title, you'll see the option to "Add SD/HD/HDX to Download".

                        Adam,

                        I think it's good the way Brazil is set up for downloading purchased films....Right now mine are stored "in the cloud".....I hope at some point, the content owners will allow storing on external HDDs....If that happens, my VUDU box will be the ultimate viewing device in my home theater......
