Agreed. Most people I talk to have never heard of Vudu. It was good to see it on a Superbowl ad.

      Re: Superbowl Commercial

I'm currently participating in Vizio's VIP VIA program. I purchased a 42 inch version of their VIA televisions directly from their web site. As part of the program I got $200 off the retail price and free shipping with the white glove treatment. I also will receive a sound bar/sub-woofer home theater system for free after completing their surveys.

      Sounds great, right?

Well there's a reason Vizio is known for cheap televisions. It's because they're CHEAP! For example, the "scanning backlight" technology they use to achieve a 240Hz refresh rate means you can sometimes notice the screen flickering albeit briefly. Since this TV serves as a secondary TV for my bed room I wasn't looking for a top notch TV in terms of picture quality but I want to dispel vudu's assertion that these TVs provide a great picture.

I purchased this TV because of the internet apps built into the TV. I know the reason for me and others to participate in Vizio's VIP program was to ferret out glitches since these products are brand new but it's glitch galore baby.

The Amazon.com app is very prone to freezing up and the only way the TV handles this is by shutting itself off. This is no fault of Vizio but the design of the Amazon's app is atrocious compared to VUDU. But it does have a nice library of TV shows (including some in HD) which is essentially non existent in VUDU.

Exiting the Netflix app renders broadcast sub channels with a black screen which means I have to shut off the TV to reset itself. As a plus though, Netflix does have some browsing capabilities.

As for the vudu app, it's flawless. No glitches!

There are only a handful of apps currently available but Vizio promises many more to come.

So I feel like a guinea pig with the problems I'm having with this TV and I hope very much that future firmware updates fix most of the problems I've encountered. Even if all the glitches get fixed the internet interface is not nearly as nice as with my LG BD390 I use for my main TV.

When was the commercial? I never saw it? I did notice a TV manufacture show VUDU as one of it's features in their commercial, but I must have missed the VUDU commercial.

In case anyone wants to see the commercial:

          http://www.vizio.com/via/

Look to the lower right hand corner at the 17 seconds mark and lower left at the 55 seconds mark.

Didn't watch the Superbowl (I'm not a football fan, and hardly watch any broadcast TV anymore for various reasons) but I got the 55-inch Vizio through the VIP program and my biggest complaint is also the not-so-smart 'smart dimming'- when it works it looks great, but when the picture goes completely black the LEDs shut off, then they don't know when to kick back in once the picture comes back. This is most obvious in trailers that have a lot of quick cuts to black. Vizio probably doesn't read this forum, but glad other people are noticing it- hope they come up with a fix for it!

The TV shutting down when browsing Amazon seems to also be a common problem from what I've read.

It sounds like the smart Dimming feature should be kept off.

"got the 55-inch Vizio through the VIP program..."

Being on the VIP program myself I think it should be renamed the "I got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you" program. The design of the Amazon app is atrocious but I would be ecstatic if it would just operate as designed.

Anyone considering a Vizio with VIA, my sincerest advice is don't. Not until they get their act together. Firmware updates please!
