Comparing VUDU on devices from LG, Samsung, Toshiba, etc?

This one is for the VUDU employees, but I figured it was worth posting publicly as prospective and existing customers looking into additional hardware devices may be interested. Basically, I'd love to see VUDU have some sort of info on their webpage that tells you what devices (TV or BR player) have what functionality. My understanding is that the base platform for non VUDU STB devices is VUDU embedded and is what we have with Brazil on the discontinued VUDU STB. Okay, but not every device has every feature found in Brazil. For instance, LG BR players are the only ones with an HDD and therefore seemingly the only ones capable of downloading vs only streaming (I may be wrong about that, but I thought the LG 590 HDD could be used for VUDU downloads). Then there are VUDU apps, which apparently aren't on all devices which have VUDU embedded. Even then, according to posts i've seen, each manufacturer has to approve each VUDU app before it will be available on the device. IOW, not every app available in Brazil on the old VUDU STB will be available on a BR player or TV that has VUDU embedded with VUDU apps.

As things move forward here, it will only get more confusing and the individual manufacturers' websites aren't much help. I know because I've been checking around and none of them contain this level of detail. Since no one knows VUDU better than VUDU, I would hope to see this kind of info consolidaiton on their site.

Anyone else think this could be useful?

I think if a "table" of devices and features was compiled it would solve this confusion.

I thought the LG Hard drive was for your own files, like music or videos. Since it's a streaming service there would be no need to store content. Even the VUDU STBs running brazil can only stream. Even though they have a hard drive in them.

Thanks for the clarification. When I saw this, I went back to see where I had gotten that idea from and found this post:

Either way, if it can't be done on the LG then that answers my question about the HDD as a differentiator for that unit (as it relates to VUDU use). Agreed that a comparison table would be very helpful.

Actually, The LG BD590 can download VUDU movies to its HDD (as can the VUDU STB in Brazil). Though this is primarily useful for customers with slow or unreliable Internet connections who still want to watch at HD/HDX quality - if you can already watch streaming HDX without problems I'm not sure if you would ever use it...

I think you can only download it if you purchase it not rent a movie.

I am not a staff member but I can answer this question, as I have downloaded movies on Brazil...If you purchase a movie in Brazil, it will give you the option to "Watch HDX" or whatever format you purchased, or "HDX for Download".....If I am correct it gives you choices of bandwidth that can be used to download....I always use "none" and it downloads at the full speed of my internet connection, I don't think you can watch the movie as it downloads though, so I just turn my projector off....you can stream it, or you can download it to your box....I think under My VUDU there is a tab that says "Manage Downloads"....It has a nice graphic of your hard drive and the amount of space left to store movies.....Or you can leave your purchase "in the cloud". where you can stream it at any time.....Hope this helps, and if any of the VUDU staff can comment, I appreciate it....

Oops - looking further, I believe right now it's only available for purchased (not rented) movies.
