    Vudu & LG BD590 - Performance Issues

Just bought and installed a LG BD590 BD player with Vudu. Setup seemed okay and internet speed is way more than suffficient. (Wireless connection to network.) No problem with streaming itself, but quality of Vudu picture on my 5 year old 50" Mitsubishi DLP is terrible. Very dark, distorted colors, poor contrast, etc. In order to compare, I have also played the same movie on the TV through DirectTV 1080HD and Time Warner Cable On Demand HD, as well as playing the same movie's Blu Ray disk on the LG BD590. All three alternates are much better than the Vudu HDX. Unless I turn the Brightness, Contrast and Sharpness up to maximum, Vudu HDX is un-watchable. I know that my TV is older and not the best, but Blu Ray, DirectV and cable all look much better on the same TV. Also, can anyone tell me why all of the movies that I have rented will only play in letterbox format even though I have the Aspect Ratio set for 16:9 Original or 16:9 Full. The only way that I can adjust the picture size is with the "Zoom". Last, do the green and "pink" indicator lights that come on in the center of the front panel when either a disk or netcast are playing mean anything. I get green for BD and "pink" for Vudu. I am not an tech expert and would appreciate any help and suggestions. Cannot see keeping Vudu if this cannot be fixed. Thanks.

I have the 590 also. The green does indicate a blu-ray disc is being played and the pink, well I was told is for an internet connection. There is also a blue color also. Pink lights up when I stream Pandora. I do not believe the issue is with the blu ray player seeing discs play well you say. Might very well be the way VUDU is being streamed. Might not be a strong enough connection. I used the regular speed test and I run close to 19mps. With vudu online test I am at a download of 23901 kbps. I have no issues with streaming VUDU. Seeing that the TV is only 5 years old, I doubt that is the issue but have it checked also (just to be on the safe side).

      KevinJ,

How do you have the BD590 connected to your TV? Component, HDMI...?

        Hi KevinJ,

What was the name of the film you tried to stream? This could also be caused by an encoding issue. Try checking another film or preview and see if the results are similar.

I too have an LG BD590 and would like to know how to activate the colored buttons on the remote.

Further, why does HDX streaming need so frequent buffering? Is that due to the speed of my internet WiFi?

For help activating your remote commands, you'll need to contact LG support.

As far as your HDX buffering issues, this could be caused by many different things. If you would like to troubleshoot over-the-phone contact our Customer Care team at 888-554-VUDU (8838). If you would prefer to troubleshoot your issue on the forums, I will need to gather your networking info, in which I case I will send you a private message. Please let me know how you would like to proceed.

I have a bd590 also, I took out my full vudu vbx1000 and put this in its place and now when i stream HD it keeps buffering and before on my other vudu that never happened and i am on the same connection. Also how do i get it off streaming and to save to the harddrive when i rent a movie so it does not have to stream when i re-watch it within 24 hours?
