Does Vudu on LG BD-590 use the HD for anything

I know my Samsung doesn't have a HD so there is no wishlist, etc. I'm curious if the LG has wishlist support since it has a HD.

I am confused...VUDU has wish lists in both versions of the service. A hard drive doesn't have anything to do with a wish list.

The option to "Add to wish list" simply isn't there on the Samsung (unless I am completely missing something). I thought the wish list had to be stored locally so some storage on the device was required. Of course that was just a guess. Am I missing something?

The VUDU service on Samsung devices (TVs and BD players) does not support the wishlist feature yet.
Other devices running the VUDU service do support the wishlist feature.
The wishlist is not stored locally on the devices.

Thanks for the udpate. I must say that sucks. There was no way I could have known the difference in the service and I bought 4 of the Samsungs before I realized it. Oh well, I guess my friends will get some good deals on slightly used BD players.

I just read the word "yet". Does that mean it will be available shortly or at some "unspecified future date"? I really want to know as I'm willing to wait a reasonable amount of time but if it isn't reasonable or it isn't known, I'll switch to the LGs.

              Thanks.

Had I known there was a difference, I would have gone with the LG. Now I'm waiting to see what they tell me about availability timeframe on the Samsung.

No date. But it is on the list of features that we want to add.

Thanks for the honest answer. Based on that I am going to switch to the LG BD-590s. I'm not really thrilled that it was not possible for me to know this before the purchase. Is there any way you can make it more obvious to people (especially those switching from the old downloading model)?

If you are getting multiple players, you may want to look at the BD-570 as well for "secondary" locations. As far as I know they have the same Netcast apps, along with DLNA. I think the main difference is that with the HDD in the 590 you can download Vudu purchases to the HDD, as well as rip CDs. Cool features, of course, but debatable if it's worth the extra cost/moving parts of the HDD for a "bathroom BD player"

I just hope someday someone hacks it for a larger harddrive now that would be sweet.

Can you clarify exactly what you can do with the HDD as far as downloading Vudu content? Is it purchases only or can you download rentals as well? Also, if you can download purchases, does it switch to a "download license" meaning you can't watch it on any of the other streaming boxes on your account?

I'm thinking of primarily going with the 550s because I don't need Wifi (which seems to be the only difference between the 550 and the 570). I'd consider getting one 590 if it would satisfy my wife's use case where she rents/buys movies before trips and takes the box with her. Would that work?

                            I appreciate your responses. Thanks.

I believe the download feature is primarily to allow viewing your owned movies in highest quality even if your Internet connection is not capable of streaming it in real time. So, right now it is limited to purchases, and you do need some sort of Internet connection to use the Vudu app. You can still watch your purchased movies on other devices on your account.

As far as the 550 vs 570 - the other difference I noticed (and why I have a 570) is that the 550 doesn't support DLNA. If playing music/video/photos on a DLNA server is a requirement, you would need the 570, otherwise the 550 is pretty much the same.
