BLU-ray & HDDVD movies should be on VUDU - no?

This is what we are all wondering... the answers you keep giving us is that no studios are releasing HD Movies, so you CAN'T offer them to us on our VUDU boxes, but why can't all the movies that are released on BLU-Ray & HD DVD be offered on your service? Those are all MUCH better quality than DVD and they are available NOW, no?

Just wondering why you can't offer those at least?

...and a follow up question that all users would LOVE to at least SEE or TEST OUT would be - can you please put one "TEST PIECE" short snippit or anything available at all in HIGH DEFINITION, so we can all see what it will look like? The early testers all say they saw what HD looks like coming over the box, so you CAN offer us SOMETHING to see?

Just really looking forward to be able to BUY & RENT some HD content like the millions of others!!

I don't see where anyone said that the studios are not releasing HD movies. We're all pretty aware (and tired) of the DVD format war, and I'm hoping VUDU will be my solution. I think what was actually said was that VUDU has to get the licensing from the studios, but does not have anything in place yet. I don't know why that is, but if I had to guess, I'd guess that the studios that have a stake in the HD format wars don't WANT to allow for any alternatives, or may be worried about VUDU HD rentals cutting into their HD-DVD or Blu-Ray sales, or they may be pushing for $10 for a rental and VUDU might be fighting to get that number down. These are just my guesses, but regardless of the reason, they're working on it, and they know that people are asking for it.

Uh, just because something is on DVD doesn't mean that it can automatically be licensed to Vudu. Vudu's distribution terms with studios are unique and have to be made on a case by case basis. The whole purchase vs. rental and the rental price issue is all mainly determined by the studios. They own the content and they control it.

Vudu has relationships with every major studio. Steve Jobs on the other hand has relationships with only 5 for about 500 movies on the iTunes store. Jobs sets the terms and the prices. There's advantages to both ways but Vudu went the route of more movies and more studios.

The licenses to HD content have yet to be worked out. We've stated that many many times. It's coming.

While on the subject of HD content, are you aware of any plans to upgrade the HDMI output to 1.3 so that the new HD audio formats can be streamed. I happen to have a new receiver that can perform the decoding.

I don't think the current hardware is 1.3a compatible. I could be wrong, but this is my understanding. Probably in the next hardware rev and I have no idea when that's going to be released...

The audio is currently capable of basically DD5.1 at this time. I don't think that higher level DD6.1 or DD7.1 formats are supported yet.

Its best to let the VUDU folks post a reply to this one. The hardware is DD compliant but there many manufactures that say they are 1.3 but it doesn't mean they support all the formats...

Our hardware is only hdmi 1.1 compatible.

Audio wise we can only support stereo PCM or Dolby Digital over HDMI.
