Re: VUDU on the Roku Player

How can the Roku 2 have VUDU when the Roku2 max content bitrate is 8Mb/s with MPEG4? Vudu wouldn't be able to have three bar HDX.

I've got a Boxee box, but I don't like using it, and it's a bit unreliable for streaming Vudu. Sometimes Vudu just won't stream on the Boxee (I get the message about there being a network problem, and to try again later) even though the Vudu speed test shows HD or HDX speeds and I'm usually only trying to stream SD content. If I connect my computer to the same ethernet connection the Boxee is using, then Vudu will stream fine, so I'm blaming the Boxee.
The Roku is a more stable device and much more pleasant to use.
Vudu on Roku = me using Vudu much, much more.
Vudu on my three Boxee Boxes is rock solid. I get 3 bar HDX with no issues.

I completely agree! I LOVED being able to use VUDU on my old player. I recently upgraded to the ROKU for all of these supposed fabulous features.... and they are, but lacking the most important feature of all... VUDU!

Re: VUDU on the Roku Player

          I also have a Roku 2 XS,
and would LOVE to have VuDu on it.

Since it is almost all other devices, I don't see why it would not be on a market as large as the Roku 2 XS... ??!!??

That would be a marketing mistake to ignore a large market, there are many of us, who would sign up TONIGHT if it were available.

Add my vote for VUDU on Roku.
I have a brand new Roku XS and love it. The only thing missing is VUDU.

VUDU if you want my money invest in Roku. Otherwise HULU Plus is my fav.

VUDU could make a pretty penny on ROKU. They could offer a monthly fee for a certain amount of $ or they could offer maybe various plans.

Until VUDU is on Roku VUDU is missing out on my money.

Re: VUDU on the Roku Player

I am NOT going to purchase a separate player to watch Vudu movies in HD!

Seriously, Roku support is the only thing that will get me spending any money on Vudu service. Otherwise it is a waste of my time with so many other options available.

I just signed up today, haven't even watched a movie yet, and I'm already extremely disappointed that I bothered!

Supposedly, the Roku2 doesn't even have the horsepower to play the best quality VUDU content.

Then what is VUDU encoding doing wrong? Netflix, Hulu+ and all the other streaming services have HD content and roughly the same requirements. HD streaming was why I bought the Roku in the first place.

Unfortunately the Disc to Digital may be the only reason I end up using VUDU. I would love to rent some movies but I'm not watching them on my laptop (nor do I want to tether my laptop to the TV with an HDMI cable). That is why I bought the Roku. Please Walmart/VUDU make us Roku owners happy and add a Roku channel...

Add one vote but I doubt anyone from the company reads this anyway. It is basically user to user support. Companies put in forums for free user to user support.

Vudu isn't doing anything wrong if the Roku processing can't handle Vudu HDX. Not sure if you have compared Vudu HDX to anything the Roku box can handle but there is no comparison, Vudu HDX is much better and requires handling much more data. The fact Vudu can offer such high quality at around 5Mbps average is amazing to me but it does require more processing power than Hulu+ or Netflix. If you are a Roku user, ask Roku why there box doesn't cover the best quality internet streaming. If you are saying everything should be dumbed down to a level Roku can handle because it is a very popular box, I wouldn't agree.

Yep. I hope Vudu also makes an app for Google TV. I'm hoping to get either one of these devices soon so I can stream my videos from Vudu in the comfort of my home.

3 bar HDX is around 9Mb/s. Netflix, Hulu+ and amazon are using at most around half that bandwidth. Plus amazon and Hulu+ streaming only has 720P as the max for their streaming content which has an even lower bitrate.

EDIT: Netflix 1080P HD content uses a 4.8Mb/s rate. A little more than half the 3 bar HDX bit rate and just slightly faster than the 1 bar HDX 4.5 Mb/s bitrate.

The Roku2 is supposedly limted to around an 8Mb/s bitrate for the streaming MPEG4 content. So if they did offer VUDU it wouldn't be able to work with three bar HDX. And there is a very noticeable difference between 2 bar and 3 bar HDX. And a huge difference betwen 3 bar and 1 bar HDX.

Just a guess but I think Google TV has Flixster, Roku has Amazon Instant Video, Boxee has VUDU and Apple TV has itunes. I believe maybe their could only be one new movie streaming app for each device, perhaps it's a contract they have with the company.

I currently own a Logitech Revue with Google TV for Flixster app and internet use and an XBOX 360 for online gaming, Netflix and VUDU use.

It would be great to have VUDU on your Roku but If you all want to have VUDU now their are other options to get VUDU, just sayin. =)

I heard Xbox 360 is coming out cheap pretty soon, but the only thing is I think you have to have gold membership to view VUDU, or I could be wrong.
