I haven't used my VUDU box for many months and I booted it up again today. There were a lot of changes--notably, the initial screen was full of apps, and the movie player was just one of them. So I went into it and watched one of my downloaded movies that I own, and I noticed that when I scroll the wheel on the remote, the whole system of rewind/ff is changed.
As I recall, it used to be that when I scrolled the wheel, it was akin to scrolling through the movie the way you'd scroll through a page of text with a mouse wheel. When I stopped scrolling, the movie would be paused at the location I scrolled to (or maybe it resumed playing from the new location, I don't remember). I thought that was really intuitive. It was also cool because I could scroll one frame at a time (this worked better going forward than in reverse, though).
Now, when I scroll in either direction, it just adjusts between one of several speeds of reverse/fast-forward indicated by a number of arrows. When I stop scrolling it keeps advancing through the movie! I get it now--you can either scroll the other way until getting to "play" or press the play button. When I press play again to pause it, the movie title nicely appears but unfortunately the scroll wheel is disabled until I press play again--no way to slowly advance the frames.
Is the old way gone for good? I feel like the new system is designed for regular remotes with buttons and is actually harder to use with the wheel. I'd prefer it to just stay paused in one spot when I stop moving the wheel.
Also, I feel like there used to be a place in the setup menu where I could adjust the sensitivity of the remote. Can't find that anywhere, either. In fact, there seem to be two setup menus--one in the movie app, the other in the app browser. Both have redundant controls for things like overscan, which seems weird.
Anyway VUDU I'm sure you'll continue to update the software but I hope you continue to support the owners of the original box. I would love the option to change how the scroll wheel advances through movies.
