What Happens w service if no HD DVD's Produced?

So my looming question is when HDDVD movies are fully stopped being produced (which has already started) What will happen with VUDU? I know I won't keep a box that cost me or others 4-6 bucks a rental or 20-30 bucks to purchase for SD movies especially at these prices. Which is another thing I am very dissapointed with. Have to purchase or wait 3 weeks after that to finally rent. It is like twisting your arm to spend 20-30 bucks a movie to purchase, which is so limited in what you can do with it It should be called a lease. for that price I can go get it on disc and even make a backup copy if need be, and not fill up hard drive which is a whole other issue that does no seem to be getting addressed.

The studios/distributors are still releasing HD content. VUDU does not use DVD's to "RIP" content and place on the VUDU. They receive the distribution directly from the studio/distributor.

NA9D did a great post on how rental/purchase works from a studio/distributor's point of view:

Its was once quoted that the VUDU is a box for those that don't buy into the "DVD Tuesday" release schedule. But keep you eye out. Some of the studios are now releasing both digital and DVD on the same day.

I think one day the content owners will finally get it and release all titles concurrently for rent and purchase.

I think you're a bit confused. HD-DVD was just one delivery method of HD content. There are many others (Blu-ray/downloads/OTA/Cable/Sat) The HD-DVD technology going away has absolutely nothing to do with Vudu. The only possible link is that since Blu-ray is still more expensive it may lead people to seek out download solutions of HD content and boost sales/usage of services like Vudu.

TexasMike, just because HD-DVD is dead, doesn't mean that HD movies are not going to be produced and put on Vudu. HD-DVD was just one of the two competing formats and it lost to Blu-Ray. Vudu is not going to be negatively affected by the demise of HD-DVD in any way. Moreover, it's probably going to be better for us since more older movies will be remastered in high-def for release on Blu-Ray and they will, hopefully, make their way to Vudu too.

Someday it may even be called "Bludu"!

Just out of curiosity, do you not like rentals at all or do you think the price for HD rentals is too high? Personally, it makes sense to me that it costs more to rent HD titles than SD titles. After all, the disks cost more, I paid more for my HD TV, and I pay more to the cable company every month for the HD channels.

It should be noted that the Star Trek movies (and probably some other titiles) on the Vudu in HD are not available on BR-DVD or the recently deceased HD-DVD. You don't have to wait for the old media to catch up with the movies, Vudu can leave them in the dust and have titles that never come out on yesterdays format.
