    New User Questions

    So I heard lately that Boxee had added vudu support, as a bit of a tack-on to their headlines of adding Netflix to their set-top boxes, and decided to check it out. Unfortunately, I hit a few roadblocks and was hoping someone knows if I'm doing something wrong or reading things incorrectly (as I'm prone to doing).

    I came to the site thinking I'll stream a movie and see how it goes. When I said I was using a PC, it insisted that I use Boxee software to do this. Is this strictly necessary or is there a regular client?

    Moving on, since I'm a Boxee user, I popped open Boxee on my htpc and searched the Apps per the instructions. No apps called vudu were found. I thought it might be due to the version I'm running, but it turns out it's up-to-date. I performed the same search using my laptop and it found it right away. I'm assuming this means that vudu isn't cross-platform... is this correct or am I doing something wrong?

    So once I had it going (on the laptop this time), I was able to launch it and browse through the catalog, which was pretty cool. But every movie I tried to play only seemed to offer Standard Def versions. Are we still waiting on HD content or is there a special setting necessary to enable HD?

    Last question (promise)... everything I saw before trying it out said that movies were 2 nights for $2, but all of the (SD only) options I saw were listed at about $4, iirc. Is there just a small subset of content that's 2 nights for $2 or am I (again) doing something wrong? Having seen this, I did not rent anything... does the price drop when you decide to rent? Not sure how this all works.

    I'd appreciate any feedback... and apologies in advance for being a dunce if I've got these things wrong.

    I can't answer the HTPC question but on Boxee via a PC you can only stream SD content. VUDU does have a really large HD library but you have to have TV or BluRay player to play back HD/HDX content.

    On the 2 for 2 nights it's only the moives in that collection at the resoltuion shown.
