    Comcast in Big Brother Role?

    I found this one today:

    http://newteevee.com/2008/03/18/comc...-watching-you/

Would you trust Comcast to watch you while you are watching their programming? This is scary folks.

Wow, I couldn't trust Comco$t to measure their own signal strength in less than 8 tries, I don't know why I'd trust them with this. The real worry is not about it sending any camera data back to them, but that their automatic activation of parental controls or other user-based "features" will be dead wrong and you won't be able to override them. Oh, and I'm sure they would NEVER insert ads based on whether you're actually in the room or not...

This is really old news. What do you think Directv and Google have been doing with all those satellites all this this time??

p.s. paper bags actually work better than tin foil hats....

What a stupid fracking idea. Of course, you could always put a piece of black electrical tape over the camera. Hopefully, they'd allow you to disable it. I can't image most people wanting this.

Of course, there would likely not be anyone really "watching." Rather it would be more like a sensor that would detect shapes and sizes. But what if you have a midget adult in your family who wants to watch Sin City Diaries and can't?

So it's in general a stupid idea. Leave the decisions to content to responsible adults in the household. Of course, the gene pool is so corrupted that the idea of a responsible adult is a rarity these days!

I got up this morning and turned on my VUDU box.

It scared the crap out of me because it started flipping screens and didn't stop until it showed what new movies were available for rent.

So I walked over to my new dongle and noticed there is a small lens on it that looks a "whole" lot like the lens on my cell phone camera. The dongle sure looks like a camera to me.

But then I breathed a sigh of relief, because I remembered that I had programmed my Harmony's startup with a macro a few days ago and forgot to erase it.

But now I want to know what does IR dongle actually stand for. Possibly "InterVideo Recorder" ?

Is there a camera built into the dongle?

Even if there is, would you tell me the truth?

          Happy Bunny Day Everyone!!

There's a reason it's called a "Vudu." We have a doll in your likeness that we stick pins in!

Well that certaintly explains why I feel like I'm on pins and needles all the time every day before my therapy sessions. Hell, It might even explain why I'm so grumpy all the time.

FYI, the article has been updated with official response from Comcast. They claim that they were talking about gesture-recognition technology (e.g. changing channels with hand gestures, etc.) and not spying on customers.
