    Too Expensive

Honestly I know the convenience pitch but charging 3.99 for a movie when I can go to Blockbusterexpress or Redbox or Netflix and grab the movie for a buck... It's like why the hell would I pay 300% more for convenience???

Vudu will go no places until it changes its pricing model because even though I truly enjoyed the trial... I will never ever pay that much for a movie when I can just grab a movie from a box on my way back from work.

    Adios!

There prices are inline with ALL other VOD services. Only their audio and video quality is the best available from streaming content.

I know the price pitch, but standing in line at a goofy machine to get my 4th choice movie in SD/Scractched DVD quality when I can go to my couch and rent an HD or HDX movie for 2 or 3 bucks more. It's like why the hell would I bother with Blockbusterexpress or Redbox?

Yeah, good luck getting bought out by a mega-retailer with that pricing model!

        Oh, wait...

Hey, if I had a Redbox in the lobby of my office building, that would be one thing, but I don't want to drive to the store just because I want to watch a movie. And I don't want to have to plan my weekend around returning it before a certain time to avoid paying for another day. So for me, it's worth it. And obviously I'm not alone. But yes, in case it wasn't obvious, Vudu will not be perfect for every single user, just as Redbox or Netflix will not. Having more options available is generally a good thing, though.

I have no problem with the price. If I rent a movie from redbox it always winds up costing me more because something always comes up and I get it back late. The movie I want is never there and I walk away empty handed more times than not. Click a button and watch a movie in 1080p and DD+? Why not?

The problem I see with paying 20 bucks for a digital only copy of a movie, is the fact that I can go to a retailer and buy first-run blue ray/DVD combo packs WITH a digital code for 24.99 +tax. Why would I buy the code only when I can have the physical copies too for only a couple of extra dollars? You can also go on EBAY and sell your included code for 5-15 dollars (on average) or buy it for that much. I buy blue ray movies at Wal Mart for 7.88 each that include a HDX code that would cost me 15.99 here on the site. So why would I pay their price for movies when I can get the codes so much cheaper elsewhere? I love the service and use it all the time, but I will never pay their prices until their prices get reasonable. Hell, if they dropped the price of new movies to 10 bucks they would probably sell three times as many copies. Just my 2 cents.

There are work arounds for everything. You can buy HDX digital copies of new releases for 3.00 if you look around. You can get DVDs everywhere and convert to HDX for 2.50 each when you convert ten or more. Borrow movies from family friends. The library, goodwill, swap meets. It's only expensive if you don't have patience to wait. If you gotta have the newest release the moment it comes out then yeah it can get costly. If you can wait a month or two it can be very inexpensive. Linking family members is also a great way to build up a collection fast.

Heck, even for Guardians of the Galaxy the only real advantage is you get it a couple weeks early.

You can get the 3D blu-ray steelbook etc yada yada for $20 at BB. Why not get that instead and have the online code?

I think the rental price is right.

Movies not on sale are typically high. Olders releases from the 90's at like 18-20$ is A lot to me. I think that 5-10$ price range is good for digital movies.

The worst is the TV seasons. Most shows not on sale are 40$ if not more for one season! If your a cable cutter, trying to "cut cost" trust me, you ain't paying 40$ to watch 10 episodes of walking dead or whatever. Your gonna use netflix, and get 100x more content, for a fraction of the cost. Seasons should be about 8-15$ tops.

I'm guessing a lot of these prices are outside of Vudu's control, but they can encourage (maybe/hopefully) the studios, say at this price point you'll sell 10K copies and reducing it by 30% you would sell 35K more copies, thus gaining X amount of more dollars.

                    Re: Too Expensive

I only buy, I don't rent. I'd probably rent if the HDX prices were around $3-$4 for new releases and $1-$2 for catalog titles. I might be willing to pay $6 if the rental period was longer (30 day rental) and/or the rental was UV so that I could share it with family.

Regarding the prices to own, I think that new release titles are priced fairly ($15-$20). But most catalog titles are too high ($14-$18). They should be more in line with Blu-ray prices ($8-$13).

And the TV prices are insane. I'd love to buy more TV shows. But there's no way I'm paying $40-$50 for a season. If they can get TV down to $1/episode, I'll buy every show I'm currently watching on TV.
