    Kind of Disappointing

    http://ces.cnet.com/8301-33363_1-573...-warner-bros./

I was hoping Walmart/VUDU would jump out of the gate here...Surprised Amazon beat them to the punch.....VUDU has made many firsts over the years, I thought for sure they were going to be first here too.....

I've had this discussion with friends recently... there are too many players in the digital content war.

First it was iTunes and digital copies. Then came VUDU. Next up was Best Buy with CinemaNow, and now we have Ultraviolet. Four different standards that deliver the same thing. If you are a movie collector such as myself, you now have to create multiple accounts through several companies just to do the same thing, watch/stream a movie. Completely inappropriate.

Why would Vudu have anything to do with ultraviolet? It's a competing service. I've sworn off buying any blurays with their stuff. Convoluted signup process and deceptive marketing.

Remember it is in it's beginning stages, just like Blu-ray was, there were the different profiles, etc, but it eventually became mainstream....I for one am bullish about UV IF they do what they say they are going to do...I like the flexibility of the ecosystem...My personal desire is to go diskless, be able to download HD films purchased through a vendor to local storage...it is all new technology....I know right now the only medium is disk-based and at the moment it's a disaster, hopefully they get it together in time......

Here is an FAQ for it......http://uvdemystified.com/uvfaq.html

It seems that right now you are correct in terms of the multiple accounts being needed, but down the road accounts can be linked to the UV digital locker, perhaps eliminating this issue.....I tend to look at it as growing pains just like with Blu-ray, and will wait and see how it develops......

In terms of mutiple players in the digital content war, competition is a good thing....Since I am mainly interested in electronic sell-through for download, I've checked out other services on my WDTV Live Hub, right now their UI stinks, no 5.1, no HD downloads(SD is available though)....VUDU leads them by a mile.....That may change later, who knows.....

UV is not a competing service, again, I refer you to the FAQ:

Yeah, if Vudu was part of the UV standard/consortium/whatever, it would both increase my use of Vudu (because I "own" other digital content and would then hopefully have access to it through Vudu) and make it a more valuable service to me (because I would have more ways to watch the content I've purchased through Vudu to date).

+1!!! VUDU has been THE service for me since the old P2P days....Right now, they are the ONLY streaming service that caters to the high-end enthusiast.....I am cautiously excited about the prospects for UV and VUDU's role in it....I sincerely hope they expand the number of set top devices that allow downloads though.. I.E. in order to download my films, I would have to go back to the old BX100, which I will not do...

That said I will monitor the rollout of UV and see what happens....

I would really like to see vudu become part of the UV consortium just from a portability perspective. UV still has a long way to go but the more support the better.
