Since you bring up the topic I was always wondering if Rusdude is a russian reference or a russet reference??

Likely both. You know that Vodka is the national drink of Russia and it's made from potatoes...

        You're sharp today!!

That's exactly why I asked. I know a lot of Russians in Klamath Falls OR who farm russet potatoes. They also farm radishes, wheat, hops, and barley.

Some of them come over to my place to tent camp and swim in the summertime. They are very down to earth types, and they know how to make some kick-*** hooch!!

Rus[sian]. The nick is something that a friend of mine over here came up a long time ago.

P.S. I had to look "russet" up, I didn't even know it was a color or a sort of potato. I lived in Idaho for a short time, so I don't know how I didn't know that.

Yes and no. You can make vodka out of many things (details here -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vodka), but potato vodka is generally associated with Poland. Vodka in Russia, as well as most top-shelf vodkas period, are made with grain (wheat & rye). Which one is better is a subject of many disputes just like where vodka originates from (Poland vs Russia).

How to get alcohol out of sugar & yeast is even taught in chemistry courses, so home-made stuff is really prevalent and, for most part, it's much safer to drink than cheap [read -- counterfeit] vodka of unknown origin that dominates Russian stores. If you read the Wikipedia article I threw up in the previous post, you'll also see that various flavored/infused vodkas are very popular too, even for medicinal purposes.

P.S. If those Russian folks every invite you fishing, make sure to bring a lot of liquor! When it comes to Russian "fishing", fishing gear (poles, nets, etc.) is strictly optional. You probably can't do it over here in the US, but in Russia it's not uncommon to use dynamite to fish (desire to use dynamite is directly proportional to blood alcohol level, lol).

I didn't throw up in the previous post, but I'm now legally blind!!

Since I'm half german/half polish I'm still not sure which vodka I like the best. So far I like to drink most any vodka with a chaser of schnapps and a good hunk of Kilbasha Yah??

                    Same here.

My mothers parents immigrated from Poland thru Ellis Island. My fathers parents came here on the Hindenburg.

Vodka is usually consumed "neat" (I always called it "straight" but Wikipedia disagrees) in Russia, Poland, and similar countries. In the US, it's mostly in mixed drinks (of which I am not a fan) and that's how it apparently got popular over here.

Anyway, in Russia vodka is usually consumed at dinners/celebrations/feasts (alcoholics excluded), so it's accompanied by a variety of food (which means you don't get drunk as quickly). One of the most common things to do is to sniff a piece of dark rye bread and chomp on a pickle (except after the first shot -- you aren't supposed to eat anything after the first one).

I'm one of their favorite fishing Poles.

In Oregon dynamite is Verboten. It's a strict rule here to only use grenades from the local National Guard Armory. We like to go to our favorite fishing hole and yell "Fire in the Hole"!!! You don't want to leave home without one.

I considered it. But after thinking about it, I got worried they might try to get me to help them screw in a light bulb.
