    price increases

I'm surprised no one has commented on the increases in price of most new releases...I'm used to a price point of 19.95 as a rule, but some increased to 22.95? I won't be buying many at that price point....Sony seems to be the most reasonable of the bunch....I will check out their offerings.....looks like the highest price point is 17.99, with varying prices in between, depending on the movie......those are price points I can live with....

    Anyone else notice this???

    Re: price increases

The prices are set at the discretion of the companies in charge of the movie rights. Depending on the movie's release date and how money grabby the companies are effects the price (I think). This annoys me because all the Pixar movies are all at the $23 price mark

Yup, greedy content owners. I have the same experience buying (or not) books for my Kindle. Once they digitize, there is almost no cost. And yet they want to sell a digital book for as much as a hard cover. Same thing here. If they would sell at a more reasonable price, they would come out way ahead in volume.

        As you say, no sale.

How do you know this? Any company is going to set the price for their product or service at a point where they think they'll make the most money. "Greedy content owners?" You deflate your own argument.

I am a free-market supporter, both for business and as a consumer....A company has the right to set the price of his product as it wishes, this business about greed is nonsense,IMO.....It's up to ME to decide if I will buy, and at $23.00, uh uh.......I have other options........

when a paperback is available for $10 and an ebook version is $20, that is greed. I can tell you from the various forums I'm on there are a lot of folks that feel that way. How do I know this? Talking to people? Common sense? Would you buy a product for 2x the price because it is digital? I have not found many that would.

              troll.

Call it greed if you want, but no company's mission is to make a little bit of money. It's not greed, it's economics. Every company has the desire to maximize profitibility. You would do the same thing. Supply and demand influences prices, not greed. If people will pay $20, then the price is $20. If people won't pay more than $10, it won't sell for $20, and eventually the company will have to roll back the price to $10. Blame customers for high prices in that situation, not companies. It's the same reason I won't buy an NFL jersey. Because they can sell them for $90+, that's the price. Too rich for my blood, but I can't blame the company for that price point. People pay that kind of money for jerseys. Why? I'll never know, but they do.

                  sticks and stones.

I am a new member and was surprised at the $$. It sounds like a good idea but i can get the dvd cheaper and have it on my hard drive for 50% less.

                    no thanks

                      Re: price increases

15% price increase effectively, so if they didn't lose 15% (an approximation) of their potential sales from this, they make more money.

But with my very nice 1080p, 7.1 Surround Sound media PC limited to 480p resolution, I am one of those new people peeking and dismissing as overly-priced for what I actually get. I can get the BD version for less in most cases, and I can still rip those. The convenience factor here does not outweigh the negatives.

I do hope that sometime the industry would look at the volume people who are doing disgustingly well and realize that if they also went for volume at low cost, sure they'd lose margin, but the sheer volume and accessibility would make up for it.

Perhaps there are ten people who will buy this at $23, but then there are 1000 who would happily rent a movie for 24-hour playback for $1, or maybe $3 for 1080p. The only reason I go to Redbox for a $1/night rental instead of paying the same price for a streaming video is because the Redbox has more selection than anybody will allow to stream at such a price. Heck, even VoD has the overhead of needing the main service first and then paying $7-14 for a 24-hour rental.
