Seriously though, since VUDU is a peer to peer device, your VUDU box would need to be connected to other peers who would be able to upload fast enough to serve instant HDX. HDX movies are roughly 10 megabits so you can imagine the amount of information that these peers would have to to you. Maybe one day when we all have fiber in our homes.
Well, a P2P strategy can be employed where each peer is uploading just a small amount. The problem though is that the number of peers goes way up. So in order to serve a 10 Mb/sec file and keep each peer at 250 kbps, you'd need about 2.5 times the number of peers that you need for a 4 Mb/sec file.

Is this possible? Sure. And I hope we see it. I have 10 Mbps available to me and I'd love to be able to utilize more than 4 Mbps for HDX as well.

This might be what finally pulls me off BB Online, Netflix (have both) and my blu-ray player if they plan to TRULY offer all new releases in HDX.

Are there any studios still not working with Vudu on NEW flicks??

I'm really pleased with this new release. The added feature of being able to initiate a download through the internet is a well thought-out feature and much appreciated. I went ahead and initiated the download of "21" and I'm eager to get home and watch it tonight.

            Well done Vudu.

So I looked at most of the HDX of Speed Racer. The quality was definitely improved from the HD titles I have seen on VUDU. On that title though it wasn't the OAR of the film but VUDU has no control over this from my understanding. But aside from that I was extremely pleased with what it looked like.
There were some instances when I did see some macroblocking but over all there was much, much more detail to the picture and it sounded like the BD did.
The BD of Speed Racer has 640kbs DD audio.

But going by this title, there is even more reason to use VUDU. If the other HDX titles look similar, then this is the best quality VOD I have seen. I use on a regular basis, VUDU, Xbox Live, PSN, and FIOS VOD.

Although I guess to truly compare them I would need to rent the same title on each format, but based on other titles I have watched, this VUDU HDX title easily beats them.

My experience with HDX over the last few weeks matches yours. The silver bullet that Vudu brings to the table is that they can (and I believe they will) encode hundreds (if not thousands) of movies in HDX format that will never be available on BD. Vudu is not hampered by the overhead that physical media brings to the table. With the Vudu you have access to a great viewing experience with titles that BD owners will never realize - they'll have to settle for SD DVD's.

HDX is not quite as good as BlueRay but it's damn good! As you watch more films, it's stunning. Watch Chronicles of Riddick. It is just incredible.

I thin k I'll try that one for another test. I have the HD DVD of that title.
I'll try out the online rental feature.

                        Sweet!
That was quick and easy online. And it shows you approximately how long it will take to download.
I did the Unrated version of Chronicles of Riddick since that is what I have on HD DVD.
                        Plus it was only $3.99.

I'll check it out tomorrow night or Sunday Night.

Yes, the unrated. I'm not sure if the other versions are available in HDX. The online rental feature is really nice.

I agree - the online ordering is pretty sweet! That's a nice hidden gem in this latest release. My guess is that they always had the ability to do this but if they released this functionality before they had HDX movies then it would've sent mixed messages about instant viewing capability.

                            Anyway - it's a great feature.

I'll take real mashed potatoes over instant mashed potatoes anyday!!

The instant ones are ok but just don't taste as good.

What I'd want to see now is an option to pre-RENT titles so they get downloaded to the box by the "rent on..." date.

As for HDX, I don't know if any other provider will be able to match it because of bandwidth costs (well, maybe cable companies).
