    Sweet!!!!
Actually, I'm still pulling for a Same Day Theatrical Release for $49.99 program - not heard if the theaters are biting on that one yet.

Expecto Patronum (random crap I could think of)

Remake of the movie (Day the Earth Stood Still) looks to be good.

Since convenience is more important to me than the difference in PQ (in most cases), I would actually pay more for HD than HDX, the same way I would pay more for any brand of milk at 7-11 than my favorite brand of milk at our normal super market if I need to get milk on the way home from work and didn't feel like wasting 20 minutes to go out of my way to get it.

Of course I understand that some prioritize things differently but I think the same pricing for both works precisely for that reason. No matter what you value, you can get it without having to pay more than the other offering. I would think that the pricing difference would only occur when they enhance HDX to be available instantly. Then, if you had a fast network you could get the best of both worlds. Of course many people wouldn't have the network capacity to take advantage of that and many people on this board have indicated price sensitivity. Perhaps they would be more likely to buy the cheaper HD to save a buck and get the added convenience.
I usually hate long quotes, but you are so dead on right with your comment.

Right now Vudu has massive bragging rights on delivering high quality with some delay. With the New York Times review, a lot of people will be looking at Vudu. Adding a price increase with the delay in delivery will force people to ask... well I am already waiting 4hours or so, why not 8 hours or why not Netflix??

Price point is critical here. It is a very delicate balance between quality and immediacy.

It is a marketing trade-off. My guess is that if HDX drives ownership into the 10s of thousands, a price increase might be worth driving others away over cost. Until then, no reason to kill the very thing that gets you unique bragging rights. Do not kill the goose...

Vuda also cant rest on their laurels. Directv's 1080p/24 versions of certain movies they are offering to us beta software testers have GREAT pq. I think they plan to compete at the same price point as Vudu in the coming months when the service is launched for everyone.

I would be careful not to violate any NDA you may have about DirecTV's beta program and what is going on there.

But Vudu is definitely not "resting" and they haven't in the last 12 months either. As I have stated, new builds come out with new features and enhancements roughly every 6 weeks or so. The box you have today is not the same one you'll have 6 months from now...

                    Hehe.

No worries, its the "Cutting Edge" software testing thats open to anyone who wants to be a guinea pig.

Theyve givens us bucket list, bank job and scorpion king 2 in 1080p/24 as freebies while they are trying to get service working for as many tv's as possible.

Vudu still has an upper hand, and their interface looks to be much better than Directv On Demand.

                      Re: HDX Movies?!

                      Two points:
                      1. I watched "21" in HDX this weekend and the PQ was superb although I'd expect to see most of the benefit of HDX in a more action oriented movie (as opposed to one with less fast moving action). So - I'm very pleased with the quality upgrade of HDX versus HD. Very nice.
                      2. As for the perceived value of HDX (with delayed gratification) versus HD (with instant gratification) I've got to say that I agree whole heartedly with Redwein. The value of HD vs HDX could be seen as being of equal value due to the pros and cons of each product. In general, I'm not going to decide what I want to watch multiple hours before sitting down to watch my selection so FOR ME, HD is going to win out most of the time. Also, FOR ME, the PQ isn't that great of a difference to warrant having to deal with the delayed gratification in most cases. However... as a customer I'm very appreciative of the value of having options as there inevitably will be a time when I'll want the HDX picture quality and will not mind the delay required to watch the movie and further to that point I also appreciate the ability to remotely select those movies from work (or whereever I might be) so that I can start seeding the device with my movie selection so that it is available for me to watch when I get home. Furthermore, I think that Vudu would dilute their marketing of instantly available streaming content by lowering the price of their HD content (lower than HDX - market declines in all prices together are excluded from this argument) becuase it would imply that the percieved value of instant viewing is of less value than supreme picture quality. Instead, by keeping the prices equal they are letting the consumer decide that for themeselves and I honestly believe that they are doing the right thing. I realize that what I value may be different from what the next guy values and it seems like Vudu realizes that too b/c by keeping the price points equivalent they're not running either guy out of the market.
                      Just my two cents.

                          Mebby,

Excellent points. I'm glad that we have HD and HDX at the same price point. You hit the nail on the head with your post. If my wife and I are sitting down to watch a movie, HD is going to win every time. However, if we talk about watching a certain movie later in the evening, I can login to my account and start a web rental of HDX and pay the same price and have the movie waiting for me when we are ready to watch.

I think there must be some confusion on my stand. I'm very happy that HDX is $5.99 and I definitely am not advocating a price increase for it.

What I'm predicting is that the price for HD will be reduced to $4.99 (Hopefully for me before Christmas). It's not really an argument between the instant vs non-instant aspect as much as pricing for differential picture/sound qualities and market competition.

I'm having a very hard time understanding why anyone would want to pay $5.99 for a movie if they could get the same movie for $4.99 instead.
