Yes it is. Some of us don't have D-TV and wouldn't take it if you paid us to take it. Others don't have X-Box, Playstation, AppleTV, etc. People that have purchased and invested in a Vudu are likely to continue to purchase form Vudu. So it completely comes down to a choice between quality versus convenience.

I'm having a very hard time understanding why anyone would want to pay $5.99 for a movie if they could get the same movie for $4.99 instead.
Well, then I suspect you only rent the SD versions of movies since they are $1.99 and $2.99?
      :-)

You're not taking into consideration the decision making process for potential future VUDU customers. Unless you think VUDU has all the customers they will ever get.

Since you put a smiley at the end of your second comment, I'm assuming you know what I really mean. If not, I'll be glad to draw you a picture.

Well, sometimes I pay $4.00 for a gallon of gas when I could get it elsewhere for $3.95. So I don't get your comments.

Price is not the only consideration of customers. If price was the only thing that mattered, Mercedes Benz would be out of business and we'd all be driving a Yugo. Ponderosa would still be in business and Morton's wouldn't be. Why should I pay $30 for a steak when I can get one at Golden Corral for $5.00? People buy value and not price.

No, the price of the HD movie is fine.

If someone is willing to spend the $300 needed to buy a Vudu they aren't going to worry about a $1.00 rental price difference. People buy a Vudu not because its movies are cheaper than anything else. People buy it because they want the selection, the convenience, the quality and the "wow" or coolness factor. There's a lot of people that want a video service that is not tied to one service provider or another, etc.

I fail to see the issue. Would you be asking for an HD price redux if HDX had not been made available?

            Re: HDX Movies?!

On a different note.... Great job Vudu on HDX. I went online Friday to try out the new service and rented 21. I did not watch it until Sunday when I had some friends over to show them. The picture quality was great and the sound was very good rivaling the early Warner Blu-rays.
I love the fact I can watch SD .99 movies for their value, HD movies for quality and convenience and HDX for their enhanced quality. Again thanks for the great job and increasing the Value of Vudu and enhancing the user experience.

Also can anyone tell me the actual size of the average HDX movies... since Comcast has the stupid cap on bandwidth.

                Re: HDX Movies?!

I believe I saw a thread on one of the blogs report that HDX movies are typcially 8GB to 10GB in size.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if memory serves me right, VUDU reduced the price of their box at the begining of this year. It's exactly the same box, so why did they do that???

I've only posted here a few times. But I believe if you look at my record, I've pushed for a $4.99 price point for HD from the day they were made available.

(p.s. I almost forgot how much fun I have posting here)

I don't think I ever said I'd "rather" pay more. I said that I'd be "willing" to pay more because it is worth more to me for instant playback. I also said that I think Vudu, as a company, was doing the right thing by charging the same.

Why are there titles in HDX with stereo sound? I feel that no title in HDX should have this audio tag or HD for that matter. I tried my first HDX this last weekend and I have to say it was very impressive. Go VUDU

The controlling interest in the title provides the content and not all of the content is delivered in 5.1. VUDU is not licensed to convert any of the content from one audio format to another.

That would put it at 4 lbs. so far. I can't help but wonder if perhaps this is really some sort of sick twisted viral marketing attempt by the Hodge who is hiding his majority shareholder stake in the scotch whiskey cheese blend factory....
