Where are you getting the idea that Vudu might not go that route. Certainly the indications are that they do plan to provide that, in addition to the other choices. Certainly nothing I have said would indicate that I would support abandoning or crippling HDX capabilities. I just find that I won't use it as much as HD (even on my 65" LCD TV). Sure there are times that I will, but I want that choice.

That just seems silly. I believe it is their plan to do both and it would be a big mistake to drop instant play to provide an HDX only solution, which seems to be what you are proposing.

BTW, I am not trying to say that you are wrong to want what you want either. I am just trying to understand (if I understand you correctly) why you would have Vudu move more forcefully in your direction at the expense of what others clearly want.
It was a misunderstanding then. I took it that you preferred the one way only.

Yes, I think offering both HD and HDX is a brilliant idea. I hope to see them support both fully, which I think will give them stability and Id like to see them standing at the end of all this.

Im looking forward to Dec so I can finally try it out.

Well, the PQ of Vudu in SD and HD is excellent in it's own right, so I don't really feel I am giving anything up compared to what I used to do. Now that there is a fork in the road, I choose the convenience because my time is worth a lot to me and I appreciate it immensely. After watching HD vs. HDX, while I can see a difference, the difference isn't big enough that I would give up the convenience a majority of the time. Now if it was as big as going from SD television to HD, then I'd probably be more inclined to go for the PQ. The reality is, however, that the difference between them isn't nearly that pronounced so I wouldn't feel like I was getting a tremendous benefit.

Now I understand why you were so adamant. No I definitely want there to be both and I was mostly justifying why pricing them the same made sense.

Our next problem will be the bandwidth caps of our lovely HSI providers.

BTW, I have 5 Vudus on my network and have 3 WANs. One is Comcast 16 Mb/S with a 250 GB/month cap and the other 2 are AT&T DSL 6 Mb/S. I use a load balancing router to tie them all together. Otherwise, I might be over. I'm up over 200 GB for the month already. If I only had the Comcast, I'd blow the cap for sure.

How about both, speed and quality?

When you rent from Netflix, you pick and wait. When a new release comes out you want to buy, you anticipate it then travel out and buy it. On top of that, most people just dont get a wild hair and watch new releases.

When a new HDX movie comes out, you pick when youd like to watch the movie and start your download accordingly.

This is not a big deal. Ill take quality over speed any day.

You need to get FIOS if they offer it in your area. I have a 50mbs down/20mbs up connection for $90 a month.
                      NO caps. Truly unlimited bandwidth.
I usually download 800MB to 1.3TB each month.

I am envious. They don't offer it here. Once they do, then I'll definitely switch. I must admit, I'll be a little sad because I think my current system is pretty cool with what I had to work with.

I totally support that concept. I want my cake and eat it too.

As I have said in previous posts, there is a "Huge" opportunity for someone to get rich by coming up with the next gen compression algorithm.

If you think it's not doable, just look at what has been done over the years with simple twisted copper wire used by the Telcos.

Data rates went from 300 baud to 57k. It seemed liked that was a ceiling data rate for a long time, but now you can get DSL at up to 8Mb rates with the exact same twisted pair of wire.

So we don't have to sit around and wait for major infrastructure upgrades to come up with a way squeeze more out of our existing wire.

I was hoping Redwein would take the lead in creating this killer compression routine. But I guess he's probably too busy to take on a garage home project.

You can get two DSL connections? Does that require two different lines (e.g. phone numbers) or just two DSL accounts? I'm not with AT&T for DSL (better independent company) but have them for home phone.

Here in Sacramento CA you can get DSL without having to pay for a phone line. In Oregon you cannot.

Unfortunately my area can only get 1.5 mb and there is no cable service here either.

Are the downloads via Broadband or Satellite?? I would think if it was Satellite the download would be much faster.
