Do you lose 5 bucks when you use an ATM over a teller? Uh no.
I lose two to four dollars depending on the ATM and also whether my credit Union is charging me a fee(depends on the ATM). But I rarely use cash and rarely go to an ATM.

There's plenty of precedent for this in the industry (taking advanced sales so you are guaranteed a copy on the release date). This would also make the day 1 P2P traffic much more efficient/productive.

I think the problem with Ed's "pre-release" Sale idea is that they can't do a pre-release sale. All sales have to come AFTER the release. But that still doesn't mean a system couldn't be put in place where the transaction isn't processed until 12:01 on the release day.

                    Re: HDX Movies?!

One thing I like about Directv's VOD service, is that you can download a movie to their box without paying for it.

You only pay when you start to watch the movie and then the 24 Hour clock kicks in.

The movies still have an expiration date if you don't watch it and it is removed from the box when it expires. But you can always download it again if you desire. You can also manually delete it from the box to free up more space if you change your mind and decide not to watch it.

The problem with VUDU is that I have to pay for the rental before I can download it and I've rented several movies that exceeded the 30 day expiration before I could get around to watch them, even though I paid for it. So I've ended up losing some money.

I would think if VUDU adopted this policy, one could get downloads of new release movies before the release date because no money has exchanged hands. And if the pre-release movie was on the VUDU box there could be some sort of control that would prevent the customer from paying for and watching the movie before it's actual release date.

This happens all the time at BlockBuster stores where you can see boxes of pre-release movies sitting behind the counter that aren't on the shelf and available until it's release date.

They should set it up like amazon and do preorders. When the movies goes live, they send it to your box.

Agreed. Don't charge you for it until it is sent and then charge it.

Hopefully folks from Vudu will see this and consider it. They have taken users suggestions to heart in the past and I hope it continues with something like this.

                          Re: HDX Movies?!

Finally was able to watch Starship Troopers 3, my first HDX movie.

It exceeded my expectations in PQ. It was very sharp and had great contrast. No color banding, no macro blocking, no pixelation.

The blacks were actually black and the audio was great.

It's hard to believe that less than a year ago there really was no viable way to download and watch a "high" quality movie over the internet to view on a home theatre system.

Based on one movie so far, I would have to say HDX is GREAT!!

I can't believe that not too long ago all we were talking about was DVD or Broadcast quality video.

There is nothing like some good clean bug killing in HDX and DD5.1!!

Because of the exponential rise in titles and the great quality of HDX, this is now my preferred choice for movies.

                          Thanks VUDU!!!

I agree, after watching an HDX movie and a HD movie, Vudu did a great thing with HDX.
