    Standard definition on large screen

I recently signed up for an account in order to watch Sons of Anarchy season 5 on my new TV. It is a 60" vizio. There is a large price difference between the standard definition formats and HDX. What exactly will the difference be? I'm not as concerned with the picture quality because I watch some TV in standard definition but some of the stuff I've watched shrinks the picture down as well so that there is a large amount of black. Will the standard definition still fill the whole screen?

From my brief viewing of SD on a 50in,...its worth the extra dollars for HD.

Assuming it is a newer TV, it should autoscale the 480p SD signal to the TV resolution of 1920x1080 (for 1080p TV) or 1200x720 (for 720p). If it does not there are usually options to make things "full screen". Now, as to if the Aspect ratio for a show will be 4:3 (old TV) or 16:9 (new widescreen TV ratio), that is purely dependent on how the show was originally aired or what ratio Vudu recieves from the studio.

I watch SD content on Vudu frequently on my 40" at a distance of around 8ft from the screen and it looks fine to me for non-visually striking movies (non-action).
