Re: The "Incorrect Aspect Ratio" Thread

I bought Stephen King's IT (1990) and Salem's Lot, and paid for HDX on both of them. But when I went to watch them, they had black bars on the right and left side and were very clearly SD movies. I tried calling Vudu and spoke with Andre, who told me he is the call-center supervisor. He said those are HDX copies of both films, even though they are an SD 4:3 aspect ratio. I asked him several times to define HDX for me and refused to answer my question. He also refused several times to refund my money for the two movies. After asking him several times to describe to me what HDX was, he refused and ended up hanging up on me, still with no refund. VUDU buyers should beware, they do not care if they rip you off by charging more for HDX and not giving it to you. They will not refund your money either.

My understanding is That IT 1990 was a TV movie and was filmed in 4:3

Yeah, it was originally a television miniseries. That said, I think that there was an HD master for the Blu-ray release.

To Catch a Thief (OAR: 1.85:1, Vudu: 1.33:1 HDX ONLY, CORRECT AR IN SD)
I am going to have to start checking this thread before watching any of my older titles like this.
I watched this last night and just assumed it was originally 1.33:1

Checked FandangoNow a bit ago on my ROKU and they have a beautiful 1.85:1 HD version I could have watched instead of another dumpster fire version on VUDU. Checked Father Goose and the same thing.

Clearly there are prints available for these classics since FandangoNow has them.
Just pure laziness on the part of VUDU.

The Blu ray releases are also full frame. Both of those are the correct versions and the best way to watch those movies. I believe the SD version of It is widescreen and cropped like the original DVD.

Add Wild Country to this list as well. It's incorrectly zoomed.

Should be 4:3, is correct in SD, but in HDX it's stretched.

Is Ben-Hur 1959 ever going to be Letterboxed properly ?

A warning to my fellow Star Trek fans: if having the director’s cut of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country in HD at long last seems too good to be true, it is. The director’s cut version is in the wrong aspect ratio. Sigh. I wish I could get my money back, but at least I can warn others.

The original 1959 Ben-Hur is not in the proper AR. Please fix! Video is blurry along with UV bursting.

TOMB OF LIGEIA. It's in 2.35 : 1 for the first 30 seconds and then switches to and stays at 4:3.

                          Rent (OAR: 2.40:1, Vudu: 1.78:1)
Come to find out, Rent is also presented in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio on iTunes, Google Play, and Movies Anywhere itself. I haven't checked Amazon of Fandango Now yet.

It's also 1.78:1 on Amazon... very annoying!
