    Background colors

    What are the colors of the backgrounds on on Vudu as you're scrolling through movies. I thought it was black, but when I went to use it yesterday, the background was different (not black, maybe kind of light purple or pinkish) and everything seems to be washed out. All other devices look fine. Any thoughts. Don't know what happened. Even previews don't look crisp. Please help.

    Well its defiantly not black but I would say a dark blueish. How are you hooked up? If you are using a component connection did one of you cables come lose?

    I had this happen on my DVD player once. The wife said that everything on the screen was pink and when I checked one of the cables wasn't fully seated.

      My LG TV crashes some times and gets the colors all fubar like that sometimes. I have to literally unplug it from the AC mains to get it to work again...

        I never hada TV crash unless it was thrown out the window

            Yes, sometimes the only viable solution is hardware acceleration @ 32 ft/sec^2.

              This could be an HDMI related issue. Can you please give me a few more details about your video setup. E.g. HDMI or DVI, TV model.

              This "purple haze" typically can be caused by a bad cable or by an YUV to RGB conversion problem. Do you have any video switches in your setup?

                Good afternoon.

                I'm conect through HDMI to a switch box. It's been connect this way since I received my unit and it just seems to have happened. I used a different HDMI cable to the switchbox (one that was connecting my HD Tivo to the switch box which works great) and am still getting the same results. Maybe it's me, but it just doesn't seem right.....

                  Can you please try and let me know what happens if you connect the VUDU box directly to the TV without the switch?

                    I finally got around to connecting the Vudu directly through HDMI to another HDTV. It looks fine (great as a matter of fact). I then connected it using a different HDMI cable directly to my A/V receiver (bypassing the HDMI switch) on my main TV and it's back to looking bad. Nothing else going through the switch or the receiver look bad, they all look fine. Any thoughts on what could be causing this. It did look fine on my initial hook up but has gone south now. Would love to figure out what the issue is.

                      Have you tried using different HDMI inputs on your receiver? Maybe one of those is bad.

                        Tried that. Everything else works and looks great through any of the HDMI inputs.

                        I'm wondering if it might be the HDMI cable. It works great for all my other devices, but it has ferrites on it and I'm wondering if that might be what's causing the problem.

                        Any other thoughts?

                          Is this the HDMI cable that came with your Vudu? I'd try switching cables no matter what to see if the problem goes away with a different cable.

                            The purple or magenta haze problem typically indicates a color space problem: the TV expects RGB but gets YCbCr from the device.
                            I actually have heard that a bad cable can be the cause of the problem (from some Optoma engineers). So I would give it a try.

                            However, I also recently fixed a bug in our code could be related. If an HDMI TV requires RGB we could under some circumstances ignore it and send YCbCr anyways. This will be fixed in this months release.

                            Please let me know if a different cable fixed the issue for you. A bad cable is the most likely scenario as fas as I can tell from here.

                              I have tried the cable that is currently connected to my Vudu with other devices in my setup recently and all those devices display perfectly. I'll swap it out and let you know what happens.

                              When is the updated software fix expected to be released?
