    HDMI 1.3 needed for 1080p/24?

I am under the impression 1080p/24 requires a 1.3 HDMI capable output.

VUDU still posts 1.0 HDMI, but claims HDMX is 1080p/24.

    What am I missing?

Has something been changed in the VUDU HDMI output?

No you don't need HDMI 1.3 for 1080P24. I used a 1.1 receiver for 1080P24 a couple of years ago.

Re: HDMI 1.3 needed for 1080p/24?

VUDU boxes are HDMI 1.1. 1.3 is only required for Deep Color or advanced audio codecs. HDMI 1.1 is fine for 1080p as already mentioned. And for the record, our instant HD content is also 1080p24, not just the HDX content.

no. All content is 8 bit.
Although I do think there are some HD video cameras that are capable of recording with the higher bit depth deep color.

Some of the new Blu-Ray players will upconvert the color to Deep Color. I have the Pioneer Elite BDP-05FD and it will upconvert Blu-Ray from 8 bit to 12 bit deep color.

OK, I have not yet studied this "Deep Color" concept, but I can't logically see how it can upconvert to more color. It probably doesn't help that I'm colorblind . Can you point me to some good articles on this Deep Color topic?

Pioneers color upconversion supposedly improves the picture, but none of the HD formats use deep color. Up to this moment, pure gimmick.

At this point I'm of the opinion that the deep color emperor has no clothes on...
