    2.2 Software?

I noticed in the news forum that 2.0 was announced with notes, but my box got 2.2 yesterday. Anything significant.

I love to see a company that uses FW updates to improve user function. One reason I love Satellite DVR's over Cable co's. Directv has been great about adding user requested features.

Are you sure that you got 2.2? ...I would think that you got 2.0.1. That release mostly contained bug fixes.

Your board revision should be 2.2 - may be that's what you remember...

AH! Makes sense now. I just glanced as I was setting it up.

What type of video chip does the Vudu box use?

We are using a quite common broadcom set top box chip. If you google around a little bit you can get more info on that.

Thats what I was thinking. That chip is everywhere, including my hddvr, and appears to do good work.

Do you guys have any cooling problems? I know many of use have added usb fans to cool the dvr's since the chip can get quite hot.

There are no cooling problems that I'm aware of.

Our thermal design is quite solid. We designed the box so that you can operate it in a cabinet with limited ventilation - it will just spin up the fan (which makes it louder, but that shouldn't matter since its inside a cabinet...).

Ah, didnt know it had a fan. Very smart of ou gus. The HDDVR's by Directv and Dish have fans but its a **** poor design.

While I gotcha, I did a little math on my download speed and time. Appears HDX files are around 6.5-7 gigs?

                    Re: 2.2 Software?

HDX files I think are closer to 8 or 9 Gigs. Normal HD files are 3 to 5. But you are close.

I have both of my Vudus in areas with little ventilation (one has zero ventilation) and while they get warm, I've seen a lot of CE devices that get MUCH hotter. The fan does a good job cooling the box and is fairly quiet.

I was kinda thinking that 7gigs was a little low, especially with the bitrates they were talking.

Its nice to see a box designed for uses other than out in the open right in front of the AC

...that reminds me of my first digital cable box. There was a big sticker on it: Don't put anything on top of the box and leave a lot of room around it or it might break...

And yes, the HDX files are probably somewhere between 7 and 10G - all depending on the length and content of the movie (e.g. the southpark movies compress much better then something like the last samurai). You also have to keep in mind (when you watch how much data gets downloaded while streaming) that a little bit of each movie is most likely already on your box...

The box is quiet like a TiVo -- can't really tell it's on. Definitely not as loud as PS3 or 360.
