    Re: "Share My Movies"

So you can share your Vudu movies with each other, but you'll lose access to movies from other services. I understood both UV libraries are available both ways?

I think I need a picture, and some powerpoint slides...

Common Setup for current Vudu user: Vudu1->UVmain CN-> UVmain M-Go-> UVmain Vudu2->UVsub
      New share setup: Vudu1->UVmain CN-> UVmain M-Go-> UVmain Vudunew1->UVsub1 Vudunew2->UVsub2
The shared invites all link in under the sharer's UV account, so any existing previously linked accounts of invited sharees will remain linked to their 'old' UV accounts and would need to have their links switched or merged into to the new UV subuser accounts. Basically it sounds like it just simplifies the UV sub-user account setup.

Any concise summary? Does this create a new VUDU acct for the user and automatically add them as a sub to your account? I'm really confused

          Re: "Share My Movies"

So I am already sharing my Ultraviolet account with 5 other users, 4 of which are linked through their own Vudu accounts (I was grandfathered in before it dropped to 2). It sounds like if I allow Vudu to manage my Ultraviolet account it can only do so through new users and not my existing ones, correct? If so they need to make it so I can manage accounts that were previously through Vudu as that would be more convenient.

Honestly, it is a bit confusing - but the basic takeaway is if you buy or redeem from VUDU you can always watch your movies on VUDU regardless of UV linking. And really, why should it be any other way?

Does the sharing go both ways?

If I share my Vudu library with a friend, do I also get access to the movies that are in his Vudu library? Or is this just a one-way share?

Since it unlinks your friends UV library from his account, his movies stay there, and don't get added to your UV library

Right, but any new purchases your friend makes or D2D do get added.

I assume that non-UV purchases do not get shared?

Yes, BUT if you are linked to someone else's UV account, and they drop you, they keep your any of your movies that you bought or redeem!

From your own FAQ: If you purchase a title on VUDU with UltraViolet rights, the rights are assigned to the UltraViolet Library that is linked at time of purchase. Unfortunately, UltraViolet rights cannot be transferred or recovered.

                        Right.

each UV database add only ever gets inserted into one table. This may be a stand alone account, or a combined account with your friends/family.

However, Jake from Vudu said no matter what, any purchase you ever make on Vudu stays in your Vudu account.

The problem may be if you join a friend/family and make a lot of purchases. Those titles get inserted into the combined UV account.

If you decide to opt out of the friend/family's combined UV group account, your titles will still be in your Vudu account, but not in a new UV account you may stand up for your new independent rights locker. This new UV table will only include titles from purchases made after this new independent account was stood up.

This is all proper in my mind.

It keeps people from abusing the system by linking to a user, getting their titles added, and then doing a rinse-and-repeat process ad infinitum.

Instead, it would be expected that a user will link to an acquaintance, friend, or family member who they intend to share their movies with and stay connected to.

                          Re: "Share My Movies"

That's where I think people are confused, including myself.

So for example, if someone invited me to their account, and I accept, anything I redeem (I redeem a lot of movies) when I am linked to their account goes to their UV account not mine.

So if we have a falling out with them (it happens with family too), they keep any movies I redeem, is that correct?

Yes, you would be able to watch your movies on vudu, after you unlinked your account, but not on any other linked services or other vudu accounts.

This happened to me. I had a friend on my account who started adding a bunch or horror movies and x-rated films that are inappropriate for children, and there was no way I could hide them from my family. So I had to create him a new UV account, and re-purchase many of the movies he had bought. I really hope that DECE will add an option to let you transfer a UV right from one account to another.

If you are looking to spite family or friends post a falling out, removing purchased titles from their UV digital rights locker will not be an available option. You will have to resort to more traditional methods, like taking them off your Christmas card list.
