Re: All day with the buffering, can't watch any of my movies

I've been having problems for about 3 weeks. I posted a thread about it last month. I've had trouble getting movies to start. The circle spins for a few seconds, then I get an error that says:

"Unable to stream this movie at the moment due to a network error.
Please try again a little later."

Vudu CS has been working with me and trying to get it fixed. But I'm still having the problem.

I just spoke with my brother, and he asked me if I was having any problems with Vudu. Apparently, he's been having problems all week. He lives about 30 minutes away and has a different ISP.

That was one of the errors I was getting too.

So it definitely sounds like an issue with Vudu..and not any specific ISP.

I keep tossing around the idea of giving up on UV, stuff like this makes it seem more and more likely that I may wind up going that route eventually.

Between all the other issues that I have posted about, and now the added issue of not knowing when or if you will be able to even watch stuff you own, it's getting crazy.

They need to step up to the plate and get this crap taken care of. All of it.

Re: All day with the buffering, can't watch any of my movies

This has been an ongoing problem for years now. Those that complain of the issue are told it's never Vudu fault but individual isp's. I'm curious if DanielH. Has even contacted Vudu to let them know that many members here all report the same issue. That Vudu has an issue while Netflix and Hulu at the same time are having no such issues so that maybe Vudu can look into what the issue might be. Also what Vudu's response to Daniel on what the cause might be is.

Just curious. I do know that if I created a service and over the years the same issue came up time and time again I would naturally think at some point that maybe there is something in the service that is causing the buffering or unable to connect issue and I would have a team looking into that pronto but that's just me.

Well, I'm not sure this is helpful, but I too had problems with buffering yesterday, though my internet connection tested as 'excellent.'

But apparently they just don't get it.

But if this was an issue with Vudu then why do some users, like me, never have this issue? I'd think it the issue was on Vudu's end then all users would be experiencing the problem not just a subset of them.

If not VUDU can you explain my real time concurrent test last night?

                753 kbps per speedtest.vudu.com

                and

                26.04 Mbps from speedtest.net

If my ISP rated a healthy 26.04 Mbps then why did VUDU rate a useless 753 kbps at the exact same time?

                  great question.

a quick lesson in networking. There are several layer-three "hops" between you and the Vudu speed server. Which "hop" is causing the slow speed will answer your question. I suspect it is not the ingress/egress of Vudu, nor their Tier-1 provider where the chokepoint exists.

                  Sincerely,

MTR is like traceroute, but includes more information helpful in answering these types of questions.

For cord-cutters, this is a very useful application.

For the record, I had zero buffering issues this weekend. I watched several titles (four I think). I had it running all Friday night while I handed out candy watching Betelgeuse & Corpse Bride. Also, a few more on Sat & Sun. All ran clean in HDX.

One other thought, if you are going to be doing a lot of streaming, be sure to take the time to run category five network cable to your TVs/Set-Top Boxes. Twisting of the pairs eliminates environmental interference common in affecting WiFi connections. All of my TVs have network cable connections. Perhaps that too is why I do not experience buffering problems on my 50Mbps service.

Had the buffering problem here in my neck of the woods this weekend as well. And it's still doing it this morning. All the of the other streaming services I have are working. The video will start playing and then stop, go thru the buffering thing start and then repeat. I first I thought it might be my Vizio TV but I get the same result thru my Samsung and Sony B/R players as well as on my Samsung tablet and Nook HD.
                      So what gives?

I already use a wired ethernet connection, not WiFi, to stream using my Roku3. Still had the issues that everyone is complaining about.

So many different people have had or are having the same issues.

                          Different locales.
                          Different ISPs.
Different connection methods (wifi vs wired)

The ONLY common denominator is VUDU itself.

I am sorry, I know some folks are trying to defend Vudu..but I don't see how.

It is VERY possible that they have an issue where some will be able to connect and some can't. I have seen that happen at work before. We had an issue with I/O and some people would be fine, others had issues. If someone who had no issues logged off and tried to get back in, they wound up having problems while someone else had their issues clear up.

I agree that a Vudu problem can not be ruled out.

I am in North Carolina. I use TWC @50Mpbs. I have no record in recent memory of a Vudu speed test being below the max 9Mbps or any buffering problems.

Perhaps if everyone who is and is not having a problem adds their info, we could compile some commonality.

Personally, I am not defending Vudu. I am just saying I have not had any buffering problems. On the contrary, the four TVs in my home all stream fine. I would not lie. I will add that I use Vudu very frequently. As a cord cutter, Vudu is one of three primary sources of content for me and my family. So, if there were a common problem, we most likely would of experienced it.

It is easy for me to be dismissive since I am not having the problem. I can empathize with those who are and am hopeful the root cause can be found & corrected. Let me know if I can help in any way.

After a few weeks without major buffering issues, the problem returned for us again last night. After about 30 minutes we gave up. I am trying to watch a movie now it the buffering is still occurring.

We need to get this resolved.
