    Need advise. Never used vudu before!

    Hi. I've never used vudu, and never really looked at vudu until today. I see it has a disc-to-digital option. I would love nothing more than to free up space and not have dvds and blu rays in my living room. But. I know little to nothing about vudu and I like to go off what actual people say about it. If I do the whole disc to digital, where are those stored? Do I need the box thing from wal mart? Worth it or no? What do you love and hate about vudu? We don't do cable. Just internet. And, we have the firestick, a tablet and 2 smartphones and a ps4. Would this be a good option for us?

    Honestly I love vudu.... have been using it for years..... the Disc to Digital movies are stored on your vudu account and in your UV library....all you need is a Vudu compatible device.. which is almost everything..... I use a Roku Ultra and also an Ipad Air 2........ Ps4 will have Vudu as will your tablets and smart phones as long as they're either IOS or Android..... be warned that some android devices cant playback in hdx though.... I have an 1080p android tablet that cant which sucks but I use My Ipad Air 2 for that... I'm not sure about the firestick you would have to ask someone else about that... I think its worth it... I used the D2D service when it was still in beta for the bulk of my collection, so I got everything 50% off years ago...... also a big negative for newer users is you can no longer invite other users to share your UV library, which fortunately I had already set up for my family before Vudu took it away for newer people...................

    If you want to share your library with people just make sure you connect your Vudu account to a "Movies Anywhere" account.... and then connect your "Movies Anywhere" account to a "Google Play" account........ through Google play you will receive most, if not all, of your movies on Movies Anywhere. and with google play you can set up a Family Sharing.... which is awesome if you want to share with your family or friends....which is also the only way I've found to share disney titles... just make sure the "Google Play" accounts your sharing it to are set up to be between the ages of 13-17 ..... as long as they're between those ages they need a pin to make purchases. just keep in mind only Movies Anywhere titles will transfer out of Vudu into your connected accounts.

    Also be on the look out for their deals section.... they do a lot of 4.99, 6.99, and 9.99 HDX titles..... and they also have some pick 2 HDX movies for 9.99 deals ...... on top of other various deals you should be on the look out for.....

      for some reason their Mix and Match 2 movies deals are not in the Deals storefront... but you can find them on the main screen through the little banner ads and also through the little drop down menu under "Movies".

        I have been using Vudu for my digital library and converted, with their disc2digital program, nearly my entire DVD and Blu Ray collection - I upgraded the DVDs to HD quality and have been selling the discs I don't want to keep on eBay to try and recoop some of the cost. The disc-to-digital program is why I went with Vudu vs Amazon to build my Video library. For me, I love it as I have my entire movie collection always available. When I go on a trip, I load a few into my ipad and I am good to go!

        Your collection is stored on your Vudu Account (but can be synced with UV and Movies Anywhere), so you would need to use a Vudu compatible device (Roku, Apple TV, etc.). to access the the app (also available on computer and ipad). Sadly there is not an app for the FireTV but your can side load the app in (a google search will show you how).

        For my set up I have 3 TVs and so I use a Tivo Roamio OTA in my living room and 2 Tivo minis in my bedrooms - they all have the Vudu app. I can access my whole library on all of them without getting up I also have the app on my iPad and computers so when I am traveling I can download movies from my library to them.

        I still have a several discs that I couldn't transfer as they are not yet available for D2D. I have added them into my Vudu wishlist and I try to buy them up when they are on the monthly sale - usually between $5.99-$7.99 which would be comparable to the DVDs I convert.

        Finally, for the tiles that aren't yet available on Vudu, I have those in an excel spreadsheet. I posted the titles on the "title request" portion of the forum, and I check Vudu every now and again to see if they are available yet.

        My hope is to get rid of all my discs - except for the movies I really love and want to keep the discs for (my Disney/Superhero films) and my 3D films as I haven't heard good things about streaming 3D and they are too pricey in my opinion.

          I love Vudu and started using it in the beginning because I thought the picture quality was better than what I was seeing from other vendors, like Sony on the Playstation. I still believe that Vudu has the best picture quality because of their support for Dolby Vision. Wow, streaming has never looked so good!!

          Like you, I had a lot of old movies and I did a lot of disc to digital conversions over the years. Its a smooth process, and now I have all my favorite old movies in my Vudu Collection!

          The PS4 is a great place to use Vudu ( if you are not 4k yet )! I was always very happy streaming Vudu on my Playstaion.

                Wow, i haven't looked through a bunch of DVD's or loaded one in a player in soooo long it sounds like the VHS days. Digital is the only way to fly for me. If I need to see if I own a title or want to watch I can just whip out my phone, tablet, turn on the TV and never leave the recliner. All the convenience, portability, anytime anywhere and I can't think of a device where the platform is unavailable unlike iTunes. Please be kind and rewind....

                  Going digital is a good option for most movies and most television series. Especially the older ones or ones available in HD. But for your favorite reference level movies, the disc version will provide the best sound and video quality. While streaming has come a long way and looks excellent, physical media has less compression. For example the 4K Blu-ray of Blade Runner 2049 looks and sounds slightly better that the 4K streaming version. But remember this only applies to properly mastered discs. Many older movies that are being offered in 4k are just converted from 1080p. I recently watched Underworld on 4k Blu-ray and it looked almost identical to my Blu-ray copy that I got many years ago. It still looked good but I should have saved my money.
