Vudu vs Netflix availability; Rental window 48 hours?

Just wondering, I have a netflix subscription in addition to Vudu.

A couple of films I want to rent are Resident Evil: Extinction and The Other Boleyn Girl. I notice that they are both available for purchase and neither are available for rent on Vudu. I also notice both are available for Netflix's instant streaming. I bring it up, because I hope this is a coincidence, and not due to the fact that say, Netflix is beginning to procure exclusive rights to certain titles in the digital download domain. I really like Vudu, but I would not expect the company to come out on top in a battle for content vs netflix.

Also, I rented the movie Priceless (Audrey Tatou) in HD, quality was great, definitely a step up over the SD version of Appaloosa that I watched the other day on my 480p projector. Also, I noticed the rental window to complete the movie was 48 hours, not 24. Is this common?

Actually, both those titles were available for rent awhile back, as I know I rented one of those, and remember the other being available for rental, so don't take the lack of availability to rent to mean anything. After-all I'm sure VUDU has many titles available for rent that Netflix does not allow via streaming, and probably shouldn't be taken to mean anything either.

That's good to know. I guess the moral of the story is I just waited too long to buy my Vudu.

Most independent studios have 48 hour windows on Vudu vs. the 24 hour window mandated by the All Mighty Supreme studios. The nominal extended rental fee does help compensate for this restriction (when needed).

Well I've had some of the items that I wanted to rent and/or purchase re-appear after a period of several months, in my wishlist. You never know...it may appear again.

I would bet that the two titles you mentioned are part of Starz catalog which gives Starz channels exclusive rights for a period of time. Since Netflix recently signed an agreement with Starz, that's how they probably made it to Netflix.

I guess, what it's going to come down to is that VOD services will start doing what Netflix did and sign separate agreements with premium channels to get rights to their catalogs.
