Constant buffering issues on Nvidia Shield TV

    Honestly I'm just starting my digital collection, only have like 20 or so movies... in everyone's honest experience would I do better to go through Apple's service for reliable 4k uhd hdr and software that works? Everyone said shield is great but if the software updates from vudu are non existent and this buffering issue hasn't been fixed for months I'm second guessing it....

      Every other app I've used on Shield streams flawlessly, with the exception now of VUDU. Shield is an amazing platform, but 5 months without a fix on a constant buffering issue is quite ridiculous.

          I watched "A. I. Artificial Intelligence" the other day on the Vudu app using the Nvidia Shield and it didn't buffer. It's only HD and not UHD so not sure it's fixed yet?

            Definitely not fixed for UHD. Tried to watch Spider-Man: Homecoming last night and it was buffering so bad it was unwatchable. I won't be buying anything else from Vudu until this is fixed, no point in paying for things I can't watch.

            My Shield is running 7.0.2 with the latest version of the Vudu app. It's using wired (gigE) networking with AT&T gigabit fiber. Buffering isn't a problem on any other streaming apps including UHD on Netflix and FandangoNow.

              Oh it's not fixed. Support sent me a canned response on it, "We have already looked into this issue, we are working with the Android Software company that has the tech in the Nvidia which is not reading Vudu like it once used to". Unreal isn't it. They blame some unknown Android Software company for the issue. Last I checked every other app streams 4K or HD on 3 separate Shields I have flawlessly. The Vudu app on Xbox One X works flawlessly... Same on Roku. Alas, it must be an NVIDIA or Google Android issue... Uh huh. Sure it is. It wouldn't be so upsetting had the issue not existed for 5 months with no update or report from Vudu.

                Yeah it's not been fixed. I got an update on the August 08th where the description is "Playback performance adjustments". So I tried watching a UHD today and about 40 minutes in the buffering started... So I guess it's not ready yet. My brother told me that Vudu are using ExoPlayer and that the player has been having buffer issues after Oreo hit. So could that be the Android Software company they are talking about ?

                I just tried watching a UHD on my Xbox One S and even there I get buffer.. I got 500 Mbps....

                  We need an update please. Several of us spend way too much money on vudu for this to have been an issue for as long as it has been

                      Yet another response from VUDU Support basically in short stating they feel it is a network issue on my end even though this entire post suggests otherwise, and FelipeF noted that they were aware of the bug and are working on a fix. That was 21 days ago without a response, and over 5 months again from the initial report in the forums. Does VUDU plan on issuing an actual fix or response?

                        I just joined this forum to echo my concern for this as well.
                        I was able to find a workaround that I don't think many in this thread will find acceptable.
                        Workaround: Cast the movie from your phone to the Nvidia Shield via the Chromecast function built into the Nvidia Shield.

                          I just managed to watch Deadpool 2 in UHD with no buffer. (Insane) I got the new update yesterday so you guys should test and get back to us if it's fixed.

                          Edit: Just watched another UHD movie with no buffering!

                            That's good news! I have the same version but only tried Deadpool 2 for a few minutes because I've already watched it twice. The first time I forgot about the super dooper version and only watched the regular one on iTunes. I then watched the super dooper version to compare. I don't think you're missing much if you only watch the regular one. I don't think most people would notice the difference unless specifically pointed out?
