    Dolby Atmos

The movie "John Wick" has a Dolby Atmos track on the blu-ray and Vudu obviously has the capability of providing the audio in Dolby Atmos because they have the Atmos samples out there for us to try. When are they going to add the Atmos tracks to the movies since they already have this capability? Maybe Dan know the answer to this one?

I hope soon. I was going to buy John Wick and Turtles because of Atmos but now I'm going to hold off. The Atmos Amaze works great on my system. I tried the 3 minute preview of Wick and it does not use Atmos.

I'm also looking forward to Gravity in Atmos.

I just ran the 2 min preview of Mockingjay - Part 1 and it is not Atmos. I won't be buying that title on Vudu.

Well it's been about 3 months since the last post in this thread. Has anything changed?

There are about 12 Dolby Atmos titles now - the latest being American Sniper.

Is VUDU going to put something out besides the short Dolby Atmos demos?

Or is all of this going to wait for the debut of their 4K streaming?

A little information from VUDU would be appreciated.

I would bet you are correct with your last statement I can see them keeping this as a 4k only exclusive for a while but we'll see.

How about it VUDU, are you going to keep Atmos only for 4K content? There are many of us with 1080P sets that have Atmos audio and want Atmos support on your HDX movies.

              Re: Dolby Atmos

I have a Samsung SUHD TV (UN65JS9000FXZA), a Integra 80.6 Pre/Pro and can compleately handle Atmos but when I play the Dolby Atmos Sample content I am only getting Dolby Digital. My settings on my vudu app (run on the Samsung Smart TV app) don't seem to enable 4k content or more importantly for me right now Atmos. Anyone know if this is expected (since I don't have a visio TV) or if I can a configuration problem?

              Thanks

I wouldn't run Vudu through the TV - get a Roku 4 and you should be good to go...

I have a Samsung HW-K950 (2016) 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos soundbar that is connected via HDMI/ARC to a Sony XBR65X850C 4K TV (2015 model). Additionally, a Sony UBP-X800 (2017 model) Ultra HD Bluray player is connected to the soundbar, which passes through 4K video to the TV.

When I play an Atmos encoded disc on the Bluray player, I can get Atmos audio from the soundbar. However, when I play Atmos encoded movies on Vudu (either via native Vudu app on my Sony TV OR via Chomecast 4K), I cannot get Atmos output.

What do I need to be doing here?

Your Sony TV isn’t yet compatible with Vudu UHD, so it’s not passing Atmos to the soundbar.

A list of compatible devices can be found here...

Try hooking up the Chromecast directly to the soundbar, then run an HDMI from soundbar to the TV.

That list doesn't specify if Atmos is supported or not.

4K Ultra HD + Dolby Vision HDR playback
                        Google Chromecast Ultra

I am trying to play through a Chromecast Ultra and still don't get Atmos. Even the Vudu Atmos Bundle demo doesn't output Atmos. Do I need the Sony TV to support Vudu UHD even if I am using the Chromecast?

With Vudu, Atmos is only available on UHD titles, so the devices on that list are the ones that support Atmos.

Have you tried plugging the Chromecast directly into your soundbar, then go from soundbar to TV?

Sorry, that's not clear. What's the point of Chromecast Ultra supporting Vudu UHD if I need the TV to support Vudu UHD as well? ( I presume you mean that the TV's support comes from running a Vudu UHD app natively)

I don't think that is the case - the TV just has to support UHD (and not Vudu UHD).

To support Atmos with Vudu on Chromecast Ultra I believe these are the other requirements:
                              1. Only Vudu UHD titles with ATMOS notated for the title will stream in Atmos (some are 4k but only regular 5.1)
                              2. I believe you will need to have the Chromecast plugged in direct into your surround receiver and not into the TV. Also , of course the receiver will have to support Atmos, 4k, and HDCP 2.2 copy protection. Most receivers 2015 and higher should support this. Or at least the mid to high end should.

                              Hope this helps
