    Goodfellas Remaster

When a movie is re-released on Blu-ray with a remastered edition, does Vudu ever go back and encode the film with that new remaster? An example would be with today's release of Goodfellas. It's using a 4K scan and the results are quite better. Is there any plan to put this version on Vudu.

    Thanks!

Jeez I was gonna ask the same exact question! If it is replaced, is there a way to know? Dan can you help? I have also seen sometimes where an updated version gets a separate item listing on Vudu (I believe Ben Hur is an example of this).

Another recent release that had remastered picture was 'The Breakfast Club', and soon 'Spartacus' (Kubrick version) will be re-released.

Typically, no, unless the studio also releases a new digital version of the "remaster". Even then, it's usually a separate purchase much like the physical versions are.

Thanks for the response, John. So with the new Goodfellas retail bluray, it contains a digital code - will that code redeem to the existing copy of Goodfellas, or a separate remastered version?

My Digital HD copy from the new Blu-ray release redeemed the existing one.

That's not surprising since we didn't get a remastered digital version for the service. Since they only offer the original version via digital, it would redeem this version. I'll ask our content team to reach out to the studio to see if they're planning on releasing the remastered version via digital.

Are you sure about it needing a separate purchase even if it is just a remaster? Do you have examples where this has been the case? We are not talking about different edits; directors cut extended etc.

                        Re: Goodfellas Remaster

To add, I noticed a competitor that starts with an "A" added the remaster as a separate streaming sku with extra features.

I don't see "Alexander the Great" on Vudu.
                          Do you mean Alexander?
There are 4 versions of Alexander, all separate versions with different run times, so they do not fit what I was referencing, a remaster without editing of the contents.
