Guesses: How long before MGM, Lionsgate and Paramount join MA?

With UV going away in July and MA becoming the industry standard for cross platform digital lockers, it seems inevitable (to me, least) that Paramount, Lionsgate and MGM will have to stop holding out and join the fray. The question is, how long will it take? Does anyone think that any of the three (or all three) will announce that they are joining MA before July when UV ends??

Not soon enough. I hate to see UV go but it's happening so these studios need to drop UV (which some have) and join MoivesAnywhere ASAP. That way all 4K titles port before they're loss in UV.

MGM will probably hold out the longest; weren?t only a handful of their titles Ultraviolet?

Probably so, and I think this is the studio that needs to jump on board the most. So many refused to buy MGM titles because they weren't UV. You'd think it would help the studios make more money with more purchases, since there would be so many options, and not everyone uses the same streamer, but also likes a good sale price.

I could see these studios not joining and making their codes be a one and done (pick a service and it stays there) or a single service offering.

If we could somehow all organize a huge group boycotting the purchase of these studio's movies, I bet they would join! Kind of an impossible task though.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's what happens.

But how long do you think that would last? I highly doubt people are just going to redeem codes left and right and have their collection spread out over 5 different providers. People are annoyed enough now having to watch certain titles on different providers and not a collection with all at one...

I fully agree from the consumer perspective and would hope so as MA is a certified success. But unfortunately the non-MA studios are the ones in worst financial shape. And are probably looking at things selfishly and not in a consumer centric way.

Paramount is just now recovering from a terrible last few years with their new CEO. Lionsgate is hurting now, recently announcing layoffs and lacking currently successful franchises (save John Wick I believe). And MGM seems to be perpetually in financial trouble and can barely be called a studio anymore. I wish WB would just buy out the remainder of MGM titles they don't own (they own most from MGMs beginning to about 1980) and be done with it.

When companies are hurting they tend to penny pinch, and unfortunately MA is one place they probably think they can pinch. I hope this will not be the case and that the big missing 3 are currently delivering their titles to Disney for rollout. But I would put my odds on 50 / 50 for each of them. Well, I would give Lionsgate a bit of an edge say 70 / 30 they join MA sooner rather than later. Time will tell!

Relativity studio comes to mind. It was distributed by Fox. At first codes were UV, expired or not. Then only at VUDU, expired or not. And now they do not redeem at all anywhere, expired or not.

Well they did go bankrupt and out of business. Lucky those that had titles previously can still watch
