I was trying to play 'Shazam' on my Chromecast Ultra via the Vudu app in UHD and while it passed along 4k resolution and Atmos sound, it didn't pass along HDR to my Benq 4k projector. It is plugged into an Onkyo TX-NR676 . To fix, I swapped over to my Samsung 4k disc player and used the Vudu app on it and voila, all passed along properly including HDR. Same receiver, same projector, etc.

Is this a current known issue (Chromecast Ultra not passing HDR)? I tried a few movies and none of the passed HDR via the Vudu app. Also switched to the Movies Anywhere app and Google Play Movies and the HDR flag was not passed there either. Thanks for any info.

My issue with the CCU is a little different but I'd say yes, Google manage to break the CCU recently. My issue is that it sends Dolby Vision but only in 1080p! ( Vudu and Netflix app ) and then Movies anywhere sends 4k but only HDR10 instead of Dolby Vision.

      What a farkin mess !

I did more testing, and found a fix for my issue. It may fix your issue if you are attaching your Chromecast to a receiver as opposed to direct to a TV, etc.

I had factory reset my Onkyo receiver a few weeks ago, and I had remembered reading that there are two semi-hidden settings in recent Onkyo receivers. One is a deep color setting - in many components this is usually best to turn off, but you want to turn it on in Onkyo receivers ( and perhaps other receivers) . You can google the key combo you need to press for your particular receiver. Mine was already set to on so that was not the issue in this case.

The other setting is in more recent Onkyo receivers - it is a '4k enhanced' setting and by default the receivers are set to '4k standard' as they are assuming that many consumers do not have cables with the muscle to handle 4:4:4 or 10 bit video signals. In my case, I needed to change this to Enhanced by pressing the BLURAY button, plus ON/STANDBY until the setting was updated.

HDR now works fully via the Chromecast Ultra!

        Hope this helps.

Yeah Vudu's 4K compatibility list is the stupidest compatibility list I have ever seen since there ever was a concept of compatibility list. Running 4K gaming and everything else in 4K Except Vudu!

Amazon and Walmart are huge competitors - so sadly due to politics it doesn't look like it will happen anytime soon. Yo can side load the app, which I have done, but it is very glitchy and the search doesn't work.

Also, 4k and HDR content will not work with the side load Vudu app on the Fire TV.

So I can't watch nor download UHD movies on my computer? A computer that has the Spec's - I7-8700K CPU / GeForce GTX 1080 Ti W/11GB mem / 250mb download with a UHD TV.

But... I can watch my UHD movies on my Xbox - Seriously?

Why in the world can't I download my movies in UHD? Your basically turning me off from making any purchase on your website. I have players that are able to play 4K movies but you won't allow me access to the UHD movies that I have paid for??

I hope someone can explain this to me because I'm totally confused by this because I know I was able to watch UHD movies before in the VUDU app.

                        Thanks in Advance

Why can't I play my UHD movies through your app on the PS4 Pro? I'd understand if it was the regular PS4 or if I had it hooked up to a plain HDTV, but I have it connected to my grandmother's 4K TV with the best cables available so that's no excuse. It should only take a simple patch to allow UHD support on compatible systems (since it's all software) so I would appreciate it if you could get on that.

P.S. You guys are missing out on some serious revenue from your 3D movies by not supporting the PlayStation VR for the playback of them.

I agree. Apparently early on this page listed DV-compatible devices, but that was replaced with those supporting *any* flavor of HDR. I can tell you the Vudu app on my TCL 4K Roku TV (2018 5-series) displays DV flags on compatible movies, but the app on my Sony UBP-X700 does not (unless it works if you turn DV on in the firmware; apparently the UBP-X700's biggest shortcoming is its inability to auto-detect DV content on 4K Blu-rays even though it supports DV on those).

Not by a long shot, Try and get 4K or even 5.1 surround sound from Hulu. What a joke! For Vudu it is probably not their fault but the HDCP they are required to support that prevents more compatible devices and computers. I believe you have to have a certain Intel CPU and use the intel GPU on the CPU to watch on a computer. Then is your monitor connected so the PC sees the copy protection is connected?
