I bought Edge of Tomorrow in UHD and compared it to the Blu-ray. It's a marginal visual improvement. Nothing that'll blow you away though since the Blu-ray already looked so good. I wish I had Dolby Atmos capability. The audio may actually be the bigger upgrade with these VUDU UHD titles(aside from San Andreas which I believe already has Atmos on the Blu-ray).

Yes, true. When I saw "Hitch" on AIV in UHD it didn't seem to me any better video than 1080p. Only the TV shows that are recent really stand out in video quality in UHD.

I really hope that sometime in the not to distant future we will have the option for digital to digital upgrade. I found the whole Vudu idea of creating your last movie collection, one that will truly grow with you to be very appealing. I'd probably pay $1 to go from HDX to 4K, maybe $2 tops. But when you are talking about 100+ for some of us movie nerds even a buck will add up fast. Fingers crossed.

If those numbers are correct though, $10 to rent and $30 to buy I think ill just have to "rough" it with plain old HDX, which I find pretty darn good to be honest (as far as streaming goes).

With the exception of a few must have titles I usually wait a few months and pick up when they get the first big price drop. With the exception of Jurassic World and Mad Max I haven't paid over $10 bucks for a Blu-ray movie in quite some time.

Or, to make a business case for it, let's assume I have a 4K TV. I would probably repurchase 2 or 3 of the best action movies I have in 4K, and for the rest I would simply "tolerate" HDX. That's $60-$90 total. If they offered a $1 upgrade, I'd probably upgrade at least half of my almost 500 movies within the first few weeks, spending ~$250, and possibly most of the rest eventually, for a total spend of about $300-400. The amount I'd be willing to spend on upgrading is relatively constant, so upping the upgrade fee doesn't change the amount by much until the number of movies I can upgrade gets to a certain point, at which point I feel like it's a poor value. For me, that point is at around $5 an upgrade, at which point I'd probably become more choosy about my upgrades and only upgrade about 30-40 of the best visual spectacles in my collection.

Thats the hard part. The Roku is currently connected to a 1080p. The other 4k displays in the house are older and not hdmi 2.0 or hdcp 2.2 so I don't know that they will work with the Roku 4 in 4k either.

I'm on vacation in Orlando, FL and instead of going to Universal Studios theme park, I bought a Roku 4. It's about the same in costs.

I guess I'll have to connect it directly to the TV because the Denon receiver is older in order to get the benefit of UDH?

Connect it directly to the HCP 2.2 compliant HDMI port on your TV, and then run the audio out of the optical port on the TV into the receiver.

Thanks, the audio is currently connected to the optical port on the TV. I'll just have to change the TV input when watching the new Roku 4.

I asked a question in this forum a few months back if anyone knew if the quality of HDX streams has improved since Vudu launched them, and heard crickets back but perhaps it is more pertinent here.

Hopefully what we are seeing as far as quality is just the early stages for 4k and hopefully over time as processors and bandwidth improves the quality can approach disc based UHD. At least I can hope...

I would pay 2 or 3 dollars to upgrade my SD titles to HD At almost 100 SD titles that's $300. They really should offer it.

How can you check to see if a port or TV is HCP 2.2 compliant? The TV is recent so I'm assuming it is compliant?

I would Google the model number of the TV and check out the online specs for its HDMI

I believe a ruling was made that after September 2014, it is mandatory for all 4k displays to have at least one 2.2 compliant HDMI port, so if it is a recent model, you should be alright. Look up the specs of the TV if you are concerned though.

The weird thing for me is that when I check the movies that I own in HDW is says I also own UHD and I didn't buy then in HDX or do D2D. So do HDX purchasers get UHD by default ?

Have you confirmed this? Are you able to play UHD movies? Did you see this viewing on the Roku 4 device?

Critical reports I've heard from AVSforum is that Vudu UHD 4k is comparable to a high quality Blu-Ray title. In some cases marginally better. It will not apparently compete with actual 4k UHD blu-ray when they start shipping.

Best picture and sound is typically blu-ray and has been. But streaming is good enough for most; let alone far more convenient.

Have you confirmed this? Are you able to play UHD movies? Did you see this viewing on the Roku 4 device?

I have the Roku 4 and none of my HDX titles that are available in UHD are showing up as being owned in UHD. I don't know what this poster is talking about? When I go to these titles, it says You own HDX and not UHD.
