The Fandango at Home Forums are designed to help viewers get the most out of their Fandango at Home experience. Here, Fandango at Home customers may post information, questions, ideas, etc. on the subject of Fandango at Home and Fandango at Home -related issues (home theater, entertainment, etc). Vudu's 'Thor' (2011) is too dark

    Vudu's 'Thor' (2011) is too dark

    My wife and daughter and I started watching Thor this afternoon. The opening scenes were so dark that we had trouble seeing what was going on. We stopped it and watched in on Amazon and it looked fine. I think vudu got a bad encode. It's entirely too dark.

    its bad if you watch it on any other DMA provider its much better

        We've been through this issue when the movie was first released. The studio has already told us that our encode is fine as is.

            Guardians of the Galaxy is really dark by default especially when watching the 3D version. Didn't like 3D on that movie because it was so dark.

              Sadly, it is not I don't understand why the studios don't care enough about their own products to want the best picture available to be out there

                So is Captain America: The First Avenger

                This seems to be a DMA issue.

                They all look fine on Amazon Prime. I'm only finding them to be too dark on DMA movies

                  Have you tried watching it on the DMA app itself ? i watched Thor on VUDU and it was horrible then i watched it on the DMA app on my roku and it looked great

                    @FelipeF, VUDU's encode is absolutely not fine, and you must reach out to the studio again. You literally can not see a thing in the opening scenes. It's not fair to us paying customers.

                        Just my opinion, but I don't think that Digital Video/UV/DMA/Amazon/etc, as an industry, is mature enough to use only one service. I have over 1000 Vudu movies, and I rely on Vudu more than anything, but I still have 5 films on iTunes I can't get anywhere else. Oh...there's one on Amazon too. Some of the aspect ratios and transfers are better here, some elsewhere. Audio quality may differ, as well.

                        I look forward to when the bumps are smoothed over, but for now, it's too fragmented, with every provider negotiating their own deals, to go with one-and-only-one provider.

                        Full Disclosure: I prefer watching the Blu-ray. I use streaming occasionally, usually for TV series (because it picks up where you left) but I'm a big fan of physical media. Plus, if you think a stream is strange, you can check it against the disk.

                          Just watched Thor for the first time on Vudu and was surprised how bad the picture is. It's embarrassing. Luckily I saw it in theaters or I would have been lost the first 30 mins. I wouldn't have known Natalie Portman was in the film for those 30 minutes because it was too dark to see anyone. I'm a big supporter of Vudu & try not to be negative but it's the truth. I'm ticked off this issue has been dismissed as being fine. I will be getting in touch with some people about this.

                              Opening Norway scenes of Captain America: The First Avenger are very dark as well.
