Here, Fandango at Home customers may post information, questions, ideas, etc. on the subject of Fandango at Home and Fandango at Home -related issues (home theater, entertainment, etc).     It seems vudu is dying. Why should we stay when itunes upgrades almost all movies and ports UHD?

      Despite those initial reports, it seems Vudu is making an effort with new features and new marketing push. I think it's good for all customers if Vudu and ITunes can share the same space. Free upgrades is encouraging, but to do it without the support of all the major studios, and with more restrictions than Itunes was a clumsy way to do it.

      I thought free upgrades was a good idea from a business standpoint because switching to one stream meant the studios could charge more for new releases. It also encourages adoption of new technology.

        Amazon carries Disney, Sony, Paramount/DreamWorks, and Lionsgate (including A24) titles in UHD.

        No Fox, Universal, or Warner Bros.

          Vudu is much better than iTunes in terms of searching, sorting, evaluating, and just overall movie management. Plus, they give us this GREAT forum, which is invaluable to me! But, yes, iTunes is usually best for purchasing and watching (to me, watching my movies using the AppleTV app on the ATV 4K device is by far the best in quality). I love using the best features of Vudu and iTunes combined, so I for one would hate it if Vudu died! But, sorry, I'm digressing from the topic of this thread.

            iTunes only ports movies as 4K when you purchase the film in 4K. If you purchase the film in HD, and iTunes upgrades it later, it's still HD in your MA account. No different than VUDU.

            The only area where VUDU is different than iTunes is that on iTunes, (HD) code redemptions are eligible for upgrades. I have, and will continue to have upgrades from Apple due to code redemptions, whereas I don't think I'll have ANY upgrades from WB/VUDU since all the titles I could be eligible for are code redemptions.

              Vudu is merely following precedent set by iTunes and google play. When google play last year suddenly offered some free upgrades to UHD of movies purchased in their system if they became available, but only in their library, with no transfer to Vudu or iTunes, posters here went crazy crying why didn't VUDU follow suit; that they would quit buying from VUDU, etc. Well, I have vast libraries in both ecosystems, and have to date only received 2 HD to 4k upgrades in Google, while I received 4 HD to 4k updates this week in VUDU, and probably 10 updates from sd to HDX last summer.

              I have a small amount of movies in iTunes, mostly from digital redemptions, and none of those were upgraded to 4k. I have a similar small number of movies in amazon, with no upgrades occurring.

              Frankly, I don't care which vendor I watch from, as long as I can figure out which has a uhd copy. If Vudu would only add 2 more sorting options for our movies one by sd, hdx or uhd, and one for movies purchased at Vudu or, alternatively, not movies anywhere eligible, I'd be a very happy camper.

              I can certainly understand why movie companies are hesitant to offer free movie upgrades to people using disc to digital conversions, because they already made almost no money from that source; I know I converted at least 1200 movies using that option for 1 to 2 dollars a movie with the 10 conversions for half price option.

                D2D still costs more than redeeming the digital code yet that didn't stop Itunes redemptions from upgrading from SD and HD to UHD for free. If they were merely following precedent, they would upgrade our digital redemptions at the very least. The majority of customers who redeem digital codes already own a physical copy. Upgrades would strongly incentivize transitioning into digital while still offering studios the ability to earn additional revenue off of new releases, which is their biggest revenue generator.

                It's encouraging that Vudu is offering anything at all, but the rollout of free upgrades has been problematic from the very beginning and it's almost completely the fault of the studios.

                      I haven't either but I'm also not surprised since I tend to buy the UHD versions pretty quickly after they're released so I wouldn't have any to upgrade.

                        I received 4 upgrades. Three were recent movies which I had decided to not purchase in uhd because of the higher cost: Sully, The Accountant, and The Town. The 4th was Unforgiven; I don't think that was available in 4k when I bought it.

                          One of the following must be true for each title in our collection as there are no upgrades showing up as of yet.

                          1 We own none of the eligibile titles.
                          2 The title was a redeemed code on VUDU.
                          3 The title was redeemed outside VUDU and came in via UV or MA.
                          4 We purchased the title via D2D/M2D.
                          5 We already own it in UHD.

                                My understanding is only the ones that are currently available in UHD.
