When will Vudu provide some sort of two factor authentication (2FA)?

Its kind of crazy that we are in 2020 yet Vudu does not offer such a basic security measure such as 2FA. This is a no brainer feature that should be provided ASAP to members as an optional feature. Those who care about security will use it, others that don't can ignore it.

I'm not so sure that's a good thing? I have 2-factor with Apple and sometimes it can be a real pain because it makes it harder for legitimate users to watch content or make account changes or even to just see our purchases.

lujan as I said, it should be an OPTIONAL feature that can be enable by those who care. I know for a fact its a good thing and if properly implemented, it should not impact the user experience.

Ultimately, I care more about security than a temporary pain so even if something like you said would happen, i would be fine with it.

Taxitodd clearly you are not aware of the benefits of 2FA or in fact how how fragile is the current system without such a simple security measure.

Not even sure why would anyone be against it. Both impressive and kind of frustrating how people can be against something that ultimately benefits them.

avgjoe you can change your password as much as you want. That is one way to make your login more secure.

One question one could ask is what would someone who logs into your Vudu steal? Intruders cannot access your credit card info and they cannot delete movies that I am aware of. You can lock out purchases by setting up 'Parental Controls' and selecting a PIN. The worst thing I can think of is the Merge Libraries function. I am not sure if there is a way to reverse that if done by a malicious person, etc.

What's the worst? Not sure if that was a rhetorical question... Assuming it wasn't, it certainly is way more than merging a library! At a minimum a huge inconvenience, but potentially much worse. Getting access could mean a loss of hundreds of dollars for people with huge digital collections, as a bad actor can easily change email and password and remove access.

Sure, one could potentially gain access again after contacting customer service, (assuming they are actually able to revert things on every potential scenario) but at what cost? I'm sure such an intervention from customer service will require at least a couple hours of explaining & follow-ups. I certainly do not want to waste my time with customer service (or frequently changing my password), if its something that I can at last minimize the chance of a security issue with 2fa enabled on my account.

One thing I would like is to remove the sign in on the device. I would prefer this is managed how many others are handling with either a QR capture or going website/activate link and then logging in on the website to authenticate.

Then you could have optional two factor on the website where you (currently) can manage / deactivate all devices. Additionally add ability to IP track so as long as you are using from a recognized device two factor approved log in during say last 60 days second factor isn't required.There are quite a few websites doing similar.

you say that until you come whining on the forum that someone hacked your account and deleted all your movies or deleted your whole account and then you'll wish you had it, or your account has maybe $15 you've spent on it so you don't care about protecting it like the rest of us do.

I'm actually also shocked that vudu does not offer two step authentication as at least a option when we have thousands of dollars wrapped up in our library that some hacker can just steal your password and wipe out your account with a couple of clicks. And setting a more secure password is just stupid when you have multiple devices you have to log into who wants to remember a 14 digit alphanumeric password and have to type it in with your remote control into your smart TV or other device two step authentication would totally remedy that and you could still have a simpler password to log into all your devices with and then put a check mark in remember this device so you don't have to do it again but it would keep a hacker with a new device from getting in it's a no brainer. And if people don't want it who cares then don't turn it on but it should be an option for those of us that actually have a library worth saving from a hacker.

When it comes to PIN, first of all it has to be set per device, so if someone hacked your password the vudu device wouldn't have a PIN set. On roku's even if the PIN is set, just deleting the vudu device on the roku, and then adding it again the PIN is now gone. I don't know how it works on other type of streaming devices. I know on Apple tv you don't need a pin because you can't buy anything on vudu on an apple tv.
