VUDU just removed all HD/HDX/UHD for everyone NOT using Edge or Safari browsers.

I have windows computers and do not use Edge browser. I only use Mozilla. Please refund every HD/HDX purchase I have made since I can no longer watch them in HD/HDX/UHD. This is ridiculous if you think you can force a browser on your users. That was not part of the EULA I agreed to at the time of purchase of each these titles. Not going to happen.

I tried to compare between Chrome and Edge on my Windows PC, and I can't even play a movie on Edge. I get a play back error for every movie I try.

I just tried to stream a Vudu title on Edge in HDX and it played just fine.

That is interesting due to edge is built on Chromium, same as Google Chrome.

What is the forcing mechanism behind this propagation?

As ddgiant said, every browser is essentially built upon the same Chromium foundations. I can't understand how some browsers are affected and others are not

Not cool, but I do 99.9% of all my watching through my Roku, so as long as that's not effected, I guess it's whatever.

C'mon guys. If this is a DRM issue, it is beyond the streaming service's control. It sounds to me like the DRM managers aren't playing nice with Google anymore.

Interesting... This issue doesn't exist on Prime. I just loaded a HD movie in Prime that I purchased, using Chrome. Played in HD just fine.

Same here. I can't playback on Edge at all, SD or not. I get the same error.

If this was a DMR issue with the studios, you'd think they would stop it on all streaming providers then, but I guess it's just a Vudu thing. I just played a UHD title on FNow... it didn't give any issue, am I to assume it just played in UHD via Firefox?

I’m looking into this with some assistance. When or if I have anymore details to share I’ll let you know. So far as I delve into this more in gets more as more complicated, especially as far as Chrome goes which is my almost exclusive browser on all platforms.

Not every browser. Firefox is completely different (it goes back to Mozilla, and from there to Netscape and Mosaic).

Edge (following on Internet Explorer) used to be its own thing, but recently adopted Chromium, yes. And Safari and Chromium share a lineage, but it goes the other way -- Safari came first. Ultimately this family is derived from KHTML and Konqueror.
