HD is dead, long live HDX

It's great that VUDU eliminated the HD tier. It was confusing to offer both HD and HDX at the same price.

For years, customers have paid the HDX price even when they purchased HD. When Apple introduced their 1080p HD tier 4-1/2 years ago, those who had purchased 720p were upgraded at no cost. A meaningful gesture from VUDU would be to adjust prior HD purchases to reflect the new all-HDX world. It would be a wonderful demonstration of why consumers should choose VUDU over the competition: a commitment to quality and to customer satisfaction.

Also, I think your content team overlooked a handful of titles that are now slated to become available in HD in the future:

    Lawless Kingdom (2015)
Auction Hunters: Pawn Shop Edition: Season 4 (2013)
    Auction Hunters: Season 3 (2012)
    Auction Hunters: Season 5 (2014)
    Flip Men: Season 2 (2012)
    TUT: Season 1 (2015)

What about titles that we got in HD that were only HD or SD? Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot was in HD, not HDX.

I think Jake from Vudu indicated they would be offering free HDX upgrades from HD purchases, soon (and as soon as available, of course).

That would be nice. I know I got my three Borne titles back in January 2008, before HDX existed. So it only shows that I own HD even though there is an HDX option now. It would be nice for me to be able to access the HDX stream.

I know, but what about titles that were never offered in HDX? That is my question. They mentioned about HD to HDX, I would assume for titles that were already HDX...

I'd still assume - if they were only available in HD before - you'll get a free "grace" upgrade to HDX (if an HDX digital file of that title is available).

For now - you'd still be able to watch in HD (as they simply stopped selling HD, but still have that resolution available for those titles), until the HDX version arrives and you receive the "gratis" upgrade.

              Jake can confirm.

I don't think there's a HDX file anywhere. Wouldn't HDX be a transfer similar to 1080p and HD is 720p? All I see on the regular streaming sites is regular HD, unless I am confused.

I stand corrected, iTunes has it in 1080p, so hopefully we will get it in HDX.

This is a great move Vudu! Thanks, and keep refining your interface.

That's correct. There aren't that many cases of HD without HDX, but for those that exist our content team is working to fill in the gaps.

                        Jake,

Can the content team look at In the Name of the King? It's currently available in HD and not HDX.

                        Thanks!

Even if the title that was purchased in HD is not longer offered on Vudu, or is still offered and had their HD quality removed, and currently only offered in SD?

I can't say with absolute certainty that *all* corner cases will be handled perfectly, but if you do feel like you paid for something that you are not getting I'm sure customer care will make it right.

                              Another really good move.

Any chance we will see a bit rate bump for HDX streams too?
