Re: HD is dead, long live HDX

I'm seeing my three Bourne titles that used to be HD only now show up as HDX. Thanks!!

Those were my first owned Vudu titles from back in January 2008.

Stop! is showing up in HDX for me now! I plan on picking up Lucky Numbers soon, loved that one.

What about movies and shows that show up via UV and Disney Movies Anywhere? I own the two Avengers movies, Iron Man 2, and the first two Captain America movies, but they are still only showing up as HD, not HDX. Will they be updated to HDX?

Now that HD is no longer being used on Vudu, perhaps we can rename HDX to HD and get rid of this made up HDX term.

I had thought the same thing. I'd love to just see SD, HD, & UHD.

Me too, especially since no other streaming provider except Vudu uses the term "HDX".

              15 UHD
              755 HDX
              2 SD

Just as long as they don't get rid of a tier between SD and HD(X) for streaming and downloading.

Um, what? That's exactly what they did. There are now three tiers. SD (480p), HDX (1080p), and UHD (2160p).

No, they got rid of HD for purchasing, they still have it for streaming.

VUDU HDX streaming is "adaptive", meaning it will stream the best quality it can over your Internet connection. These streams can vary in bitrate and resolution - so if you only have, say 2 Mbps you will still be able to play the "HDX" quality, it will just automatically fall back to < 2Mbps 480p. This means users will not have to manually switch to lower qualities as playback will seamlessly do that for them.

Note some older devices (pre 2013) do have issues with switching resolution seamlessly - those will still require a manual switch to SD when the bitrate drops too much.

As well as downloading. Which makes it nice if you have a tablet only capable of 720p and don't want to waste space downloading a higher quality download that you can't tell the difference between.

Does it? It usually just stops the stream, complains to me and asks me which version I want to stream, and offers me the choice of all three, rather than doing it automatically.

                            Could be 3 possibilities:

                            1) your device doesn't support this feature (as I mentioned)
                            2) the content doesn't support it (we have done it for about 90% of the content so far, including everything released in the last 2 years)
                            3) had a problem streaming the lowest ~1Mbps stream - right now it will still offer to downgrade, but if it's not one of the above two, you may still buffer with SD in this case.

My guess is that it was the third possibility.
