Playback Error on certain movies after new update?

So, after Vudu decided for whatever reason to update the app to basically the web browser version, I cannot watch certain movies and I'll get a playback error that says this: "Playback error streaming in this browser is not available at this time. Please choose an alternate browser, such as Chrome or Firefox to continue viewing." I'm using the Microsoft Store App (Not Web Browser). I tried to contact Vudu Support and that was nearly a week ago with no response back. Does anyone else have this issue or is there a fix? Will Vudu fix this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! - Vincent

Call the phone number and put it on speakerphone.

I got the same error for a rented movie and was not able to watch it during it's time allotment. Tried to get a simple refund or credit back and was told no refunds. They do not seem to be doing very well with customer service lately. Shame too cause I've been using them for years and building up a digital collection that is currently not playable on my TV.

Well, I'm gonna try to call them and see if I can get any help or anything to fix the problem. I know exactly where you're coming from, you build up a collection of movies just to be unable to watch them? It sucks, and it sucks bad. Before I started using Vudu, I had already and still do have a massive collection of VHS and DVD's, but once you watch some of your favorite movies in HDX, it's a definite game changer. That's the good thing about owning physical movies/shows is you'll never have technical difficulties like this, but at same time there is a downside to that too lol

If only they had movie services like we have music services. Oh well.

So, I talked to someone through Vudu on the phone, and we figured out the problem. I guess since the new update you can't watch certain movies/shows in HDX on the Vudu App from the Microsoft Store. In order to watch them in HDX you have to watch them through Chrome or Firefox Web Browsers. You can watch the movies that give those errors in SD quality through the Vudu app after you change the playback quality to SD from HDX but not in HDX anymore...

So, all in all, instead of being able to watch everything in just the app... if you want to watch certain movies/shows in HDX you gotta watch them in a web browser. In my opinion, the HDX through the web browser is not near as good as through the actual app... just by a quick comparison from the Web Browser - Vudu App in a movie that I can watch HDX on both. I really hope they change the app back, or fix it so you can watch all your movies and shows in HDX on just the app... so I guess the problem is somewhat fixed then? Still sucks that they thought the app needed to be changed.. when it was great before.

Forum is littered with loads of similar posts. Studios are making lots of changes and various software and / or hardware is being capped at various resolutions. Streaming boxes like Roku Ultra and Apple TV has thus far mostly been unaffected. People often throw out that Netflix, Prime Video works at the higher resolution, maybe even on the same title. There are various answers. But I also remember Netflix said they were no longer going to support certain old legacy hardware at all anymore; but Vudu still was. So the argument was flipped back then. It’s always one thing or another.
