Are all titles on VUDU 4K HDR?

Finally have upgraded to 4K UHD HRD10+ capability. Now with a Samsung 85” AU 8000, Roku 4K UHD 4800 and Denon ARV x1700h. Most of my VUDU library is HDX with a few SDs that were from freebie signups years ago, and I also have a few recent UHD purchases.

It appears that all of my HDX and SD titles are outputting from the Roku at 4K24p with HDR and my AVR is sending that to the TV (Roku > AVR > TV, obviously all UHD HDMI cables). It that correct or am I misinterpreting the AVR info graphic? My UHD purchases are HDR10+. All are seen as Dolby Atmos and output as such. Looks and sounds great. Is this really the case or is some kind of upscaling happening?

If needed I’ll try to size some screen shots I took which are too large for this site.

I think I’ve found the answer to my own question. It appears the Roku Ultra upscales everything to the highest resolution the TV will display. As I have it set to “auto” it detects “4K HDR10+ HDCP2.2 and is putting out 4K24 HDR10 through the AVR to the TV. How different this actually looks from actual UHD stream is unclear to me, though watching an HDX movie through the Roku appears better than through the Samsung’s VUDU app. Somehow the Roku outputs the DD+ audio stream as Atmos. I will say that I can’t really tell a difference between the upscaled HDX and UHD titles but my MLP is probably not close enough to matter.

There are settings on the Roku Ultra so it feeds the unmodified sound and video from a source.

      >Settings > Digital Audio Format > Passthrough

      Sends audio unmodified

      >Settings > System > Advanced System Settings > Advanced Display Settings > Auto-adjust Display Refresh Rate > On

Keeps Refresh Rate same as the incoming source

      >Settings > System > Advanced System Settings > Advanced Display Settings > HDR Always On > Off

Only triggers Dolby Vision or HDR when content actually is DV or HDR

and while in Adv Disp, you can also ensure higher quality Luma and Chroma

Settings > System > Advanced System Settings > Advanced Display Settings > HDR Subsampling > 4:2:2
If your TV supports that, it opens up a larger color space for deep colors.

Thanks B2Net! I’ll play sound with those settings. I do have it set at 4:2:2.
