Bring back the Vudu Spark - User suggestions

Do you want a Vudu streaming box and stick with a Vudu OS (operating system) like the Vudu Spark*?

Suggest how you want the OS to be.

* - (The Vudu Spark was a streaming stick like Roku stick and Amazon Fire TV stick which launched in 2015. As of date, it is not available anywhere)

My suggestions:

1. The Vudu OS should be fully dedicated to Vudu rentals and purchases. No subscription services allowed.
2. Home screen should have three tabs: Library, Rentals, Store. Each tab should have a search bar within it.
3. The Library tab should have your purchases. Collection may be sorted by 'recently added', 'trending' etc.
4. The Rentals tab should have your current rentals and past rentals. Past rentals are shown so that the user can see the current prices on them. If affordable, the user may purchase it and add to their library.
5. The Store Tab shows the Vudu storefront.
6. The remote control should have a 'Library' button which powers on your TV and goes straight to your Library. (This is only in case if Vudu decides to show the storefront as the first tab).

If they offered a high end interface like the $6000+ Kaleidescape system I would totally buy a dedicated Vudu box. I used to have a Kaleidescape before UV went away and since they never added MA support.

I originally had one of the $600 Vudu (only) hardware units as well so I have no problem with a dedicated box.

We don't want it to compete with Kaleidescape yet. We want it to be in the same market as Apple, Google, Amazon boxes and sticks. But pure Vudu, nothing else. I hate how my Google TV stick shows all kinds of shows and movies from Netflix, Disney+ and others, but very few are showing from the Google Play store. Even if I uninstall all apps, it still shows content from subscription services.

Kaleidescape doesn't play any other service. You could do the same thing with Vudu. The point of Kaleidescape is how is displays, organizes, and provides movie details.

Kaleidescape is basically like Vudu but more polished, you see more movies at once, details and similar movies are easier and more accurate along with less button pushes.

Not for nothing, but...
Kalidascape is not a streaming box, it plays from a hard drive.
It offers100mbps and 60 frames per second, with lossless audio.
Vudu provides about 15mbps and 24 frames per second.
You are comparing a Ferrari to a go-cart.

I’m talking only about Kalidascape as far as the interface goes.

Unrelated to its quality, hard drive use or anything else. I’ve owned them before and well versed in the hat it is and how it does it.

A dedicated device means full power of the device would be used for Vudu navigation and playback which means a faster and smoother experience.

The remote control would be fully used for Vudu navigation with dedicated buttons for several features we access on the Vudu app on other devices via scrolling.

Still not sold. The app on my LG OLED is extremely fast & smooth. Titles start within 5 seconds of selection (wired network). If a dedicated box improved image or audio quality I might be inclined to agree, but those factors are dictated by Vudu's stream rate.

I don't need another remote, either. LG's "Magic Remote" is outstanding. There is no "scrolling" except through titles. It uses a Bluetooth controlled cursor on-screen. Just like a mouse on a PC, you point to what you want & use one button to select. It also works with my 4k Blu-ray player, my cable box, and my surround receiver.

In any case, I don't see Vudu going back into the hardware business, so this discussion is moot.

We need it back with a great UI and 4K Dolby Vision+Atmos support.

It's not about selling. It is about having this as an option for hardcore Vudu fans. You don't even need to sell it in brick and mortar stores or even other online stores. Just sell it online only on the Vudu website.

Another great feature to add: "Movies We Think You Will Like".

Prime Video Store has this feature and works great. I think it uses an algorithm based on our current collection. Most of my purchases are made from this recommendation list.

I signed up to say I would love dedicated Vudu hardware.

Makes sense for Vudu too as most of the apps don't allow for purchases within the app.

Just a single purpose device like kaleidoscape.

Streaming is fine, but maybe incorporate ai upscaling like the Nvidia streaming sticks.

Vudu started years ago with dedicated hardware before streaming boxes really existed. That went away quite some time ago. They tried there own streaming stick as well not too long ago; didn’t do well.

Apple devices (AppleTV, iPhone, iPad) support purchasing but Vudu chooses not to allow it or they would have to share the profits.

I thought Android devices had Vudu allowed purchasing but not sure.

My Roku allows purchasing and renting though with Vudu.

seems like all the more reason for Vudu to bring back dedicated movie hardware like Kaleidescape. It doesnt need to be download, it can be streaming.

Like the original vudu streaming boxes.
