    Leave Vudu On or "Off"

Is it OK to just simply leave the Vudu switched on all the time or is it recomended that you turn it "off" when not in use? I would imagine that even when you turn it "off" that it's still really on so that it can receive updates and such...

The reason I ask is b/c I sat down tonight to resume watching Bourne Supremacy and the video was stuttering horribly. I tried pasuing and restarting, and then fast forwarding and rewinding and no matter what I did it still froze (video froze and audio kept going).

I unplugged the box, let it wind down and then plugged it back in and everything worked just fine.

Any ideas on what caused this?

The power button on the Vudu does nothing more than turn the video on and off.

In terms of the Bourne movies, this is good to know (not good that it happened). Can you give us more details:

    1.) Box ID:
2.) Time of problem as exact as possible:
3.) How long was the movie paused (you said you resumed it):

    The more info the better.

      Box ID - 0x2a2c
Time of incident - approximately 9:30pm Eastern time

      More info:
The movie wasn't necessarily paused. I had been watching it a few days ago and stopped. So tonight I sat down to resume (by simply selecting the movie and then selecting "watch it now") and it attempted to start off where I left it. It played for about 10 seconds and then completely froze.

I tried rewinding to see if that would "un-freeze" it. It did rewind but when it tried to resume playing the video would freeze and the audio would continue.

I tried backing out of the movie and going to the home screen and then restarting the movie but I had the same results (video freezing but audio not).

Then I tried the other Bourne movie (both of these are the HD ones by the way) to see if that one would play and it had the exact same issues as the first one.

So I unplugged the box, waited about 30 seconds and then plugged it back in, waited for it to boot-up, and then tried the movie again. Problem solved.

Thanks. I have sent an e-mail to the customer service folks and requested the investigate this.

I am already looking at this. Somehow the box can get into a state where the decoder "freezes" HD content. Once it is in that state you need to power cycle the box to get it back to work.

So far I have no good way of duplicating the issue. Will keep you posted.

Thanks for the response. At least the issue is known and I'm sure it's being addressed.

I've had the same stuttering issues with the Bourne movies, but haven't tried any of the steps above. I'll report back tonight when I've tried a power down and reboot.

Same thing happened to me when I went to watch and the same steps solved the problem. Presto!
