My Best Friend's Wedding - No HDR, No Atmos?

FelipeF What the heck is going on at Vudu? Have the people in charge of encoding fallen asleep at the wheel?

Here is yet another recent "catalog" title that is missing any form of HDR and the newly mixed Atmos track that was included on the recent 4K UHD Blu-ray disc release.

Apple TV has it in Dolby Vision, at least.

Judging by the amount you post, you should probably just use Apple TV

Digitals should be the same across all retailers, especially if it is a Movies Anywhere title. No excuse whatsoever.

Sure, but looking at your post history, you seem to be upset or overly critical. Just saying you can just link Movies Anywhere to Apple and move on.

You really shouldn't tell anyone to "move on" when they are trying to better YOUR experience on this streaming provider. I agree with Toddwrtr 100%. All titles should be the same across all platforms, MA or not, as long as they are by the same studio. It's pure laziness when one streamer or another refuses to get the proper transfers. If we stop at one title, who's to say a title you enjoy won't get this treatment next week/month? Just because you don't care, doesn't mean we all should follow suit. If you don't enjoy having your purchases of the best quality that is available, maybe you should stick with DVD and VHS?

I don't disagree with that. My point is if the OP has weekly complaints and is saying Vudu has "fallen asleep at the wheel", then it's probably not the right service for him. Why continue to waste time and complain weekly when other services have what he's looking for? This goes for any service or product.

Apple TV has its problems, too. The classic “Lawrence of Arabia” is missing a Dolby Atmos track which Vudu has. The “Ghostbusters” female reboot redeemed thru MA to Apple TV as HD, yet redeemed as 4K everywhere else. Those are just two examples of issues at Apple.

Occasionally, Movies Anywhere titles redeem as HD on Prime Video when they should redeem as 4K. Contacting support at Amazon is useless, as no one knows how to resolve the issue. The only way to resolve it is to send an e-mail to their Executive Customer Relations (Jeff at Amazon dot com).

Every service has issues, issues that should not exist. The big problem is that when a customer brings those issues to the attention of the retailer, studio, and in some cases Movies Anywhere, no one wants to take ownership of that issue.

Also, I suggest you visit Home Theater Forum and look up my articles on Streaming Frustrations and Letter to Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Or listen to the Home Theater United podcast episodes where I was the guest regarding Streaming Frustration and you will get a good idea how completely screwed up the streaming landscape is.

And Vudu HAS fallen asleep at the wheel, as many of us are STILL waiting for all the screwups from the Vudu/FandangoNow library merger to get fixed nearly 18 months later.

They have fallen asleep, and still this is the right service for me. With over 2,000 titles in my library, I could never see myself trying to rebuild anywhere else, unless Vudu shuts down, and then I would still have a portion elsewhere, but the majority would prob. be lost since most are not MA. However, things never get fixed if we all set on our butts and don't complain. We kept complaining and we are slowly getting titles from FNow merger fixed. We complained about the lack of HD quality for lots of titles, and they are slowly adding HD transfers. We must complain if we want to have a chance at getting things fixed.

Vudu Customer Service's response via e-mail:

                      Hi Todd,

Unfortunately, the best version that we have available for this movie is 4K, Dolby Digital Plus 5.1, we don?t have this movie on Dolby Atmos.

                      Thank you,
                      Vudu Customer Service
No kidding - that is why I opened a ticket!

It's like talking to a brick wall sometimes with customer service.
