Afraid to invest in VUDU, how is the company doing?

Is there a way to track or read reports on the state of the company? I'm afraid to start purchasing content, just to lose it. I already feel like I got burned by Amazon & Google.

A bit of background, I first started out with VUDU, but back then the content didn't scale down on poor internet like Netflix & YouTube, so the videos ended up buffering too much to the point that it was unwatchable. This was about 10 years ago. Then I started buying on Amazon, over 600 movies, but then I realized Amazon had a policy that just because you purchased it, doesn't mean you always be able to watch it. For example: you purchase the movie Santa Claus you can watch it, except during Christmas where a network would have exclusive rights. I then switched to Google Play Movies and purchased over a thousand movies, but then the Movies were switched to YouTube. On YouTube, movies and TV shows that you purchased are hard to find, buried under similar content. Then the Movies were added to Google TV, which I bought three, and none of them work properly.

So now I am thinking of coming back to VUDU. However, I don't want to waste anymore money. How is the company doing? I know it was purchased by Fandango recently, but I'm worried the business would turn belly up and I would lose my investment.

If you have fears about buying digital content then maybe you should just rent or buy on physical disc; which often comes with a digital code.

There is always a threat of loosing your digital content and not necessary from any one company going. Contracts changes. Studios pull thing. Streams change in quality. Internet and servers go down. There was even talk in the past of charging a viewing fee on stuff you own to compensate for storing and streaming to all owners / renters.

Vudu is a sinking ship ever since they were acquired by and merged with FandangoNow (which is owned by Comcast), The only PVOD service I would invest in would be Apple TV/iTunes.

If a movie is part of Movies Anywhere, I will purchase from whichever participating retailer has the best price (iTunes, Google, Vudu, Prime Video) and watch either on the Apple TV app or on the Movies Anywhere app. Everything else I now purchase from iTunes, since Vudu has been screwing things up and trying to get them fixed is a nightmare and won't likely happen anytime in my lifetime.

It's too bad we never got the UV only studios on MA or something new so we could link those movies across retailers again.

Thankfully I've got most of my movies linked across the remaining MA retailers as I created additional accounts just to get the UV titles everywhere I could before they shut down. So I have some more options down the road with minimal losses.

I usually don't buy much that's price more than rental prices. I troll the sales, both digital only and physical with code, quite heavily.

Sadly, I can't find myself switching. Too much invested in Vudu, prob. more non-MA titles and seasons than MA, that I own, so I would have to fork out 1,000s+ if I wanted to switch, and I'm just not in that position now. Hopefully Comcast will sell Vudu off if they see the numbers go down, but I don't know if anyone could do any better. iTunes, Prime, Google, they all have issues, can't really say who has the most since I tend to stick with Vudu if I buy anything.

What do you mean by this? I thought the only MA-compatible retailers UV linked to were Vudu and FandangoNow. Why would you need to create additional accounts?

UltraViolet had more retailers than that. I created accounts with all of them at the time to cover my bases that even if one (or more) went under I would still have access to my movies at the others.

If Wiki is correct they are/were:

              Vudu
              FandangoNow (M-Go)
              Flixster
              Kaleidescape
              Verizon Fios On Demand
              Videociety
              Nolim Films

I think Target was on there too but It’s been soooo long.

I like to pretend if vudu went under they could make a deal with Apple or Amazon to transfer customers and their content. Of course in reality digital is a risk so hopefully Vudu is doing well.
