I've seen that Vudu has UHD format available now. Why does it cost so much for an upgrade? Shouldn't said upgrade be free? Sony at least has free ps5 upgrades for previous games purchased that was on ps4. I really don't want to have to purchase all my movies over again to be able to watch it on my new TV, nor do I have the extra income to do so.

UHD upgrade cost

You can still watch HD movies on a UHD/4K TV. Vudu is one of the few digital retailers that allow you to upgrade titles in your Vudu library with a simple purchase. It is much more convoluted on iTunes/Apple TV, basically having to either gift yourself or have a friend gift that movie to you, although iTunes is the only retailer that offers free 4K upgrades as long as you purchased it from them directly (in other words, not a code redemption). Those free upgrades, though do not populate outside of iTunes/Apple TV (so anything that is Movies Anywhere eligible that was purchased on iTunes would upgrade to 4K when it becomes available, but would remain as HD on other Movies Anywhere retailers like Vudu).Originally posted by ghun81@gmail.com View PostI've seen that Vudu has UHD format available now. What I would recommend, if you want to upgrade titles in your Vudu library to 4K is to watch for that title to go on sale and purchase the upgrade then. I typically wait for the $5 sales to do that, but have bitten at the $7 or $10 sales depending on the title and how much better that 4K transfer is over the older HD one.

When you replace the DVD you pay full price for a Blu-ray you have to pay full price for the Blu-ray and when you replace that with 4K Blu-ray you have to pay full price.
Regardless it’s up to each studio and not Vudu.
Put the 4K you want in your watchlist and when it goes on sale purchase it and consider it the upgrade fee.

jeremymc7 with that kind of attitude, it makes me wonder how in the world you became a senior member. The OP was partially right we shouldn’t have to pay that much to upgrade the 4K. You can justify it all you want but $14.99 is the cost I’ve seen on most of them. But I’ve seen some go up as high as $30. This is ridiculous. A $5 charge would be reasonable and shouldn’t be no more then that.

He gave you advice. Wait until the titles you want to upgrade go on sale. I've upgraded hundreds of titles to UHD at $5 a pop.
It's not like you're gonna upgrade everything all at once anyway, so be patient. Fandango At Home has sales every single week.
As for your claim about $30 movies, the only titles at that price point are brand new releases for sale before the discs drop. So, nobody is paying that for an "upgrade".
My advice to you is listen to the Senior Members here, and quit thinking you know it all.
If anyone's got an attitude, it's you.

My advice to you is listen to the Senior Members here, and quit thinking you know it all. If anyone's got an attitude,
First of all, I didn’t even realize that I got a reply a few years ago and I’m sorry I’m just now replying, but I want to get my side of it since you want to claim That I’ve got an attitude and that I don’t know what I’m talking about and I should listen instead of giving my side of it. I’m 48 not 8/18/28/38 you don’t need to scold or lecture me like some wet behind the ears adolescent I’ve been on this earth for 48 years. I’ve been around the block a time or 2. And no, I don’t claim to know at all, but when I see someone’s giving bad advice, I’m going to chime in and say something about it. And just because you’re a senior member doesn’t mean we have to listen to you and that doesn’t make you smarter than we are that just means you’ve been on here longer. That doesn’t make you an expert. And no, I don’t have an attitude. I’m just calling it like it is. And no, I don’t claim to be an expert in it, but I do have experience in this type of thing. Basically, I have the common sense versus people that are booksmart type of situation in this scenario. now I’m going to weigh in on your scenario of waiting for them to drop the price down to $5 Fandango at home/Vudu Only charges $2 using D2D but what upsets me about that is most of the movies that I scan the barcode on are not eligible for D2D Even though the movie is available on fandango at home and yes, I know that depends on the studio, but fandango at home could help fight for us consumers so that we can have that option. But this is what I wanna weigh in about If they can offer the $2 Price for D2D Then why aren’t we getting that deal when upgrading SD to HDX or HDX to UHD? There is no difference between the 2 In fact, there’s a lot more into it when doing the D2D And if fandango at home is offering D2D for $2 then We should be able to get the same $2 pricing construct when upgrading HDX to UHD. Fandango at home and the Studios would make a whole lot more money if they would let people upgrade to UHD for the $2 price instead of the other crazy amounts they’re charging. It’s like that old saying that goes you can get more Flies with honey then you can with vinegar. Also, I want to add I am here to learn as well and I’m as human as the next person so I make mistakes and if I offended anyone, I apologize I’m not here to make trouble. I want to help when I can and I wanna learn when I can and I wanna teach when I can and if I helped someone great and if they’ve helped me, I would definitely show my gratitude. And I wanna be part of this and actually make a few friends along the way. Also, I want to mention that it was mentioned that I should contact the Studios well for example Paramount doesn’t even have a telephone number where you can contact them. Believe me I have tried. I purchased the big box set of the Titanic 4K set and just like the standard 4K of Titanic. My 4K disc had the audio issues and I was having to email Paramount to get the replacement disc that they offered everyone and the first disk they sent to me was for the standard 4K movie. And the second one they sent me was the correct disc, but it still had the missing audio and I’ve been trying to get a hold of them by phone to get them to send me the disc with the corrected audio on it because I paid nearly $200 for that movie. Which I don’t normally pay out that much for a movie, but it was the last movie. I took my mother to see before she passed away, so it has sentimental value to me. But for some reason these Studios Are not willing to give their contact information whether it be by phone and if they do give you a email address, they don’t respond so basically as consumers are stuck at a standstill. I’ve even had several of my digital movies & TV shows go missing out of my Digital library. And I’ve had quite a few physical, digital copies, not go through because fandango at home says it was already in my library because I had the HDX version of it in my library, even though the digital was for UHD. so if they’re gonna treat it like that, why are they treating the UHD as a different movie when they themselves have said that that same movie was already in my library. And yes, I have contacted Fandango at home who has had me provide images of the movie, the digital code and a copy of Proof of purchase. And not very often, I might get them to give me that UHD of that digital movie. Let’s just say it’s 1 out of every 20 That they’ve actually honored. I just would like to say to fandango at home. They can’t have it both ways. They can’t have their cake and pie and eat it too.
